University forced to buy XXX domain names

One school has confirmed it was forced to spend on XXX domain names to prevent any tarnishing of its reputation.
University of Kansas has bought numerous domains, including KUgirls.xxx and KUnurses.xxx.
Total expenses? $3000.
The University will sit on the domains and does not plan to add anything to the sites.

sounds like the got the domains with an intention to sell them at a higher price when demand is right.

Talk about having a "duh" moment... I didn't even think of any of this. Is AD going to get scammed too? Or what about all the government agencies all together? Talk about the "world is their oyster & they're going to eat it raw". Some of the big time lawyers & entertainers, that would be funny too.

Some one on the local news site here said the same thing, but seriously, why would a porn company be that desperate? Why not go buy ukgirls.com or uklgirls.net assuming they are free? .XXX domains may be sort of special now, but soon enough, the nostalgia factor will wear off,imo, and .xxx domains will be as generic as .com,.net,.gov,etc making them no more valuable then a .com domain.

I think these companies and groups are over reacting. I can't imagine the level of moron you'd have to be to belive the .xxx domain had anything to do with the real thing. If they tried to appear affiliated with the real thing? Sue em back to the stone age just like you would anyone else...
