Yes! Another newbie...

I'm fighting (and going a bit loopy) figuring out this DVD burning thing...coasters a plenty!

I do desktop video via Adobe Premiere and Flash. Export my finished projects as Microsoft DV AVIs and convert my Flash movies to AVIs.

Open up Nero 6 and put together my DVD of say 4 videos that are perhaps a total of 90 minutes. Hit burn to DVD-R and the process of transcoding and burning takes 3 or 4 hours. (I have a Pentium 4/3.0/1 ghz of RAM) ...it never has worked! I get all kinds results none of which are even close to "good". Usually only one menu item will fire up and often it's the last portion of the piece or the wrong piece.

Ok, so finally I figured out that if I just build the DVD again using the transcoded VOB files, my success rate and quality is much higher. But the files are split at .99GB...why is that? I can merge the two pieces together in Nero, but they are " ugly glitchy".

Questions: 1.Can anyone tell me what my problem might be as far as just being able to put my AVIs in line, and transcoding/burning in Nero?

2. Can I simply transcode to VOB and write to my harddrive in Nero without having to do the menu thing...just transcode?

3. Do the VOB files have to be split at .99GB?

4. Is there some software I should invest in for my type of DVD burning? That being desktop video/AVI conversion. Straight forward file transcoding software?

...one last thing. Why when I assemble the VOB files for burning do they have to be "transcoded" again, before burning to disc?

Thanks!
