To get HDLoader to boot from the MC download the DMS Explorer (not HDD Explorer) and extract the files from the BIN-image. Add HDLOADER.ELF to the files and open INSTALL.CNF in some editor and change the line
with your favourite PS2-disc-building-tool (CDGEN or something) and burn away.
When you boot the disc it loads the DMS Explorer and then by pressing SELECT it installs the HDLoader to your MC, replacing the possibly existing DMS Explorer from it. Then just reset holding triangle or set devmode1 as the default bootmode from the setting and it'll launch HDLoader straight off.
I tried, and I got it to work, but if I boot off of the memory card I can't install games. Is that how it is supposed to be because installing games requires files that are on the CD, or is something just wrong with the install?
if i correctly install hdloader to my mc using a ps2 with dms3 by using this method explained, can i use that same mc on another ps2 without dms3 to transfer games to a hd? thanks. i have 2 ps2's but only one of them has the dms3 chip while the other has no other chip and i was just trying to think of a way to get games for my unmodded ps2.
Well, this method sort-of works for me, but not completely.
The only way it works for me: boot in Dev.olution 1 mode with a CD in the drive, when I get the HDLoader splash screen, hit eject. Then my list of games comes up.
Goofy, huh?
Any ideas how to install HDLoader to the HDD itself so it can be launched by DMS HDD Explorer? No manner of tinkering with the install script on the HDD Explorer CD seems to work for me... anyone done it?
You must have a V9-10 system. For some reason on those systems you do have to have a DVD/CD game in your system for it to work. But I have sent it to people who have V4's and V7's and such and it work s with no disc. I have a V9 so I have to use a disc too. So in essence, if you have a V9-10 system you might as well use the cracked version CD-r. But its still cool. lol
