Zero length files in WinDVD Creator

I'm having real problems trying to figure out how to capture video from my Sony video camera through the DV source. WinDVD Creator 2 recognises my camera as a DV device and I can select it and use the camera controls via the panel. The video shows in the video preview and plays fine. When I click the round button (with the red circle image) to begin recording I get a file name text box come up asking for the name of the file to save to. I enter a filename and then pres ok and then the round record button (has a square image inside) which I click it to stop recording a few minutes later after the video has played a while. Sometimes after doing this I get a progress bar saying processing mpeg. HOWEVER whenever I look at the created files they are zero length. Can anyone advise me what I am doing wrong? I can get still images fine.
