I bought a 50 pack of memorex DVD+R media because I heard plus was the better format. But I came home and the +R discs didnt work on my xbox, (memorex's -R's worked great). do you think i sould just spend $50 on a new dvd player or stick with the -R's?
thanks,
kevin

If -R's work for you, I'd stick with them. +R's aren't "better," they're just a different format. You might try -R's in your standalone DVD player(s) if you have any -- some DVD players read +R's, some read -R's, some read both. The newer models supposedly read all formats, but to be honest I haven't found that to be true ... maybe 'cause I buy the cheaper models.
Anyway, hope you can get your money back for the +R's -- stores can be pretty good about accepting things back for compatibility reasons especially if you look sheepish enough. :-)

dvd+r is the standard in the industry.the picture is better and plus you wont get all the errors you get with -r.get a dvd player that plays all formats. apex makes cheap ones for those penny pinchers.

Actually there are a ton of people on these forums who exclusively use Ritek DVD-R's and have had great success. I'm not sure there is *A* standard format at this point, although there might be in the future. I back up with DVD+R's but have found many DVD players that will only play DVD-R's (including two that I bought before I knew there was a difference).

karen2003; I have found that many of the new DVD players and only some of the old players that will only play DVD+R's as this is what to get when you buy a move on a DVDs and I have and do use a lot of DVD+R's .So if you buy the cheaper models players you will always get what you pay for

Actually, the very cheap model I just bought (Oritron, $39 on sale at K-Mart last week) plays all + and - formats without a hitch. It's my more expensive ones that I bought a year or two ago that are more finicky -- two models play only DVD-R and one plays only DVD+R. So for me anyway, the cost doesn't seem to have made a difference. Obviously I recognize that others' experiences will often be different.
