I've spent coutless hours reading threads about the Ritek Go4 blank DVD discs. It's definately difficult to determine what's the truth. I've also read a while back that the Verbatim DataLife Plus blank DVDs were possible the best media to purchase. I'd like to hear the pros and cons of this media from those who used it.

A little more expensive than Ritek and btw I've searched the net for a 50 pack but the best I could locate was a printable 20 pack.

Well Verbatim in my opinion are the better disc...They are a bit more fingerprint and scratch resistant and also all the discs will be perfect.
With ritek if you buy a 50 spindle 1or2 might have ink blemishes or smudges which still isnt that bad because ritek are a lot cheaper than Verbatim.
Bottom line is ritek is very good media at a very affordable price. Verbatim is a little better but you will pay for it.
So what i do is use ritek ridatas for most of my backups and i use verbatim for my precious ones.
hope this helps you out and here are some sites that ritek is sold at
http://www.supermediastore.com
http://www.newegg.com
by the way buy the if your buying ritek get the RED shrink wraped ridatas NOT anytheng else...these are the best ones.

Much agreed, Verbatim are the best discs I have used. However they are the most expensive. Ritek are now much cheaper and are faily consistant among batchs. Utimately that is the most important thing. Lots of the cheap stuff is only really good in one or two batch and hunting it down (the good ones) can be a pain. Ritek and Verbatim are consistant and are worth the money.

What country are you in, looking for Ritek?

I live in the USA. I have already ordered the following a week back:

RITEK G04 DVD-R 4x 4.7GB Media (50 Discs $.77 per disc)
from BUY.COM.

BTW I'm in the process of building a new computer in which I'll be backing up my DVD collection. I just ordered DVDFab and should be here soon.

I've been monitoring this forum for the past few week so I could become knowledged on various topics. Moment of truth will be when I power up the new system. Thanks!

I just received the RITEK blank DVD (50 pack shiny silver, actually two 25 packs). Strange since I ordered a 50 pack of RITEK branded dvds. I need to first decide if I'm going to try them or return them.

How do I verify that this media is actually RITEK ?

By the way this Blank media has the serial starting with J6. In the event this is RITEK, is this an indicator of good or not so good media?

pony..you can find out what the disc is by downloading a program called dvdinfopro. This will tell you what dye is used on the disc, with other tools like file checking and speed tests etc(not massivly reliable but about the best youll get).Just cos the dye used is RITEK means buggerall...loads of brands use that dye....some crap and some ok.Dont ask me which is ok cos im still finding out for my self!!Ive crowed about traxdata only to get a duff batc.Ive recently crowed about piodata 4x(ritek G04 dye) when my first batch was great, and the last batch shyte cos theyve been mixing a b and c grades together. This is happening with most brands im sure.Or am i the only one??!!

Thanks for the reply. This is a concern. At this location:

http://store.yahoo.com/meritline/verbatim-4x-dvd-plus-r-dvdplusr-blank-media-disc-discs-jewel-case.html

I can't locaate any info telling me if this media is branded. I write a lot of info on my discs and would rather not use the shiny silver media. Anyone know if this Verbatim media is branded ?

From what I read so far it appears that the Verbatim Datalife Plus is the way to go. Only time will tell.
