Hello,
I first strarted off using DVDXcopy ver 3.1.1. I ripped 6 dvds with no problems. I next discovered dvdshrink & dvdcrypter. I decided to try these. They didn't work. I next updated to DVDXcopy v4-1.0.3.8_full_install. Now this doesn't work either. What I mean, it reads the dvd and when writing, it gets to 21% and freezes. It does the same thing with dvdcrypter too. My machine is an AMD xp2800+, 512 ram, 200gig HD with a Emprex 8x dvd writer & TDK DVD+R 4x discs. Ive installed Nero too with no luck. I had rixo and removed that too. I now have about 10 coasters sitting here. What do I need to do to get either DVDXcopy or dvdshrink/dvdcrypter to work properly. I've done the asp1_471a2 thing too. I'M starting to think maybe its my burner. IM about to pull my hair out. I paid $80 for the DVDXcopy software and thought that I got ripped off when I discovered the freeware stuff. Im not to sure right now. Everything was working just great before I started trying the freeware. I was able to copy the DVD in about 40 minutes and reburn in in about the same time. now everthing takes over an hour to copy etc. I checked my DMA setting too, all OK.
I need help Baaaaaaad...... I'll need some step by step directions to get this solved.
Fire away as Im a newbie......
If anyone is in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and would like to stop by and lend a hand, Im all for it. IF you would like to do so, email me at and Ill get back to you. We could do it over the phone if that will work.
ALso, this looks like a great forum. I did some reaserch and saw that peolpe were able to do a complete copy/reburn of a DVD in less than 10 minutes. I need to know how to do this.
TIA
David

First thing , remove your EMAIL address, spammers will get it and drive you nuts.
Now,dvd xcopy is what I know.
200 GB harddrive. How much freee space is on the partiton that the software is on> must be at least 12-15 GB free space on that partition.
Next scan for spyware. www.cnet.com ..search for adaware, its a free download.
Next, here is the 321 studios blacklist.
USe it if the first two suggestions dont work.
This software blacklist applies only to the DVD X Copy line (including DVD Copy Plus), as well as burn-related issues with other 321 Studios software titles:
1. B's Clip: This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove programs, then reboot to remove it. For more information, visit the B's website at http://www.bhacorp.com.
2. Direct CD or Drag to Disk: These are applications from Easy CD Creator from Roxio. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. To remove them you need to do to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There you can select Easy CD Creator to change, not remove. Then you must click next until it gives you the option to modify. Then either Direct CD or Drag to Disk should be selected and changed to "make this option not available". Then click next and while the program may look like it is installing, it is removing those options. One thing to remember is that both Direct CD and Drag to Disk will not be installed at the same time. For more information, please visit Roxio's website at http://www.roxio.com/en/support.index.jhtml
3. GoBack: backup software that constantly runs in the background (Terminate and Stay Ready) this needs not only to be turned off, but disabled. Unfortunately, this may cause some restore points to vanish, but it will free up a lot of hard drive space. For more information visit Symantec's web site for GoBack at http://www.symantec.com/goback/index.html
4. DLA: Also HP-DLA, Veritas DLA, and others. DLA stands for Disk Letter Assignment. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove programs, then reboot to remove it.
5. InCD: This is packet writing software that comes bundled with Ahead Nero Burning Rom. For more information go to Nero's website at Nero.com/en/" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.Nero.com/en/
6. Interactual Player and PC Friendly Player: These programs are DVD software viewers that often come on DVD movie discs, and will try to install themselves everytime you watch a movie on your computer. Please make sure to NOT let these install. Both programs interfere with all 321 Studios software and should be un-installed from Add or Remove programs in control panel when found. In some cases, you will need to uninstall and reinstall our software to restore functionality after removing one of these. For more information about both players, visit http://player.interactual.com/
7. McAfee Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, McAfee needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive. For more info go to McAfee's website at http://us.mcafee.com/default.asp
8. Norton Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar and the automatic updates should be disabled. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, Norton needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive. The Norton Website is http://www.symantec.com/
9. StopZilla: StopZilla can hinder required portions of our installer, causing the software to fail. Please completely disable StopZilla, then install our software. Once our software is installed, you may safely enable it again. If you have any difficulty using our software at a later time, you may need to disable StopZilla before going to use our software. Uninstallation is not required.
10. MyStorageGuard: This backup software can hinder certain required files from being copied during the installation. Please disable this program before installing our software, and have it disabled any time you go to use our software. Uninstallation is not required.
11. Napster 2.0: This software includes some basic burning software that can cause burning problems if it is running. You will need to close this program completely before trying to use our software. In some rare cases, you will need to completely uninstall this package to attain full reliability, so if disabling does not solve your issue, please try uninstalling this software, and try again.
12. Easy CD Creator 4.x: Due to the age of this package, it is no longer updated by the authors. There are bugs present in this older system that will cause NUMEROUS problems on your machine, not just with our software. Please Uninstall completely, and consider either the new 6.x version from Roxio (http://www.roxio.com) or Nero 6.x (Nero.com" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.Nero.com). These packages, installed without the Packet Writing software (DirectCD/Drag to Disk/InCD), all work very well together with our software.
Spyware and Adware - some programs can install other software that can be damaging to your Operating System. Please scan for these programs with a Spyware utility. We recommend Ad-Aware, available freely at http://www.lavasoftusa.com
If you perform any of these changes, you may need to uninstall our software, then re-install to fix any damage left. If you find some of these packages, please shut down and reboot twice to ensure that the last pieces of the conflicting software are completely removed.

The checklist presented by 321sucker is a good review for anyone with 321 software.
Hopefully you read the instructions and have the needed free space. Couldn't help but notice the problems started when you started adding software. Same thing happened to me. Found out my biggest problem was with InCD from the Nero suite. It is listed separately in Add Remove in the Control Panel. So just delete it and never put it back. It has been in a separate packet (so far) with Nero downloads (I never open it, anymore). The rest of Nero plays well. I also had Roxio. I am able to just turn off Roxio, and Drag to Disc. Unfortunately, some have to delete it.
I have seen cases where InCD even messed up DVD Shrink. Shrink and Decrypter should work in the same environment with Xcopy. I have those and a number of other programs on my system and no problems.
By the way, how did you activate the program? I thought 321 had stopped all support on the old Xcopy.

321sucker & Brobear.
Thanks for responding. I've removed my email addy. In my continuos research, I came along a website and program called Liveupdate, which checks your cd & dvd burners for the latest firmware. I did it and my Emprex (BTC) dvd burner needed a firmware update. After I updated, I tried both the 321 & dvdshrink/dvdcrypter and both work flawlessly now. I can rip & burn a DVD in under 20 minutes. I read were people can do it in under 10 minutes, that would be nice. I have 93 Gig free. I don't have any of those programs on my machine. I just orderd some Ritek DVD's to use since everyone seems to say they are the best. My TKD's seem to work good again since my update.
As to the DVDXcopy, I bought the software from ProDVDCopy.com It was ver 3.1.1 with the ID & Password supplied inside the software case. I loaded it, it asked for the ID & pass, no problems. I also updated to v4-1.0.3.8_full_install and no problem with that either.
All seems to be going great again. I've just burned 3 DVD's tonight already, working on number 4.
Again, thanks for your replys and if I need any further help, I know were to look.

Tex,
Thanks for the info. I'd purchased my software from 321 studios and the software had to be activated online or by phone using the license and password. Shortly after 321 lost in court, I was having problems and couldn't get the software reactivated after a reinstallation.
Since you have 321 software you might want to copy the unabridged checklist tier 2 tech supplied me with. It has a bit more than what was earlier posted. A copy will be good reference material in case of future problems.
Here is the bulletin:
The following programs can cause problems while using our software. Your situation sounds like one of these are installed:
To remove them you need to go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There you can select Easy CD Creator to Change - not Remove. Then you click next until it gives you the option to Modify. Then either Direct CD or Drag to Disk should be selected and changed to "make this option not available". Then click Next. While the program may look like it is installing, it is actually removing those options.
For more information, please visit Roxio's website at http://www.roxio.com/en/support.index.jhtml
3. GoBack: This is backup software that constantly runs in the background (Terminate and Stay Ready) which not only needs to be turned off, but disabled. Unfortunately, this may cause some restore points to vanish, but it will free up a lot of hard drive space.

Noticed upgrading firmware was part of the checklist. If I had put the entire bulletin up, I might have saved some time; but I only came on the scene here today. I'm starting to make it a point to put up the entire bulletin any time I see a person having problems with 321 software. Make a copy and pass the entire thing on.

Thanks again for the info. Appears 321 has changed policy again. They had everyone up in the air for a while.
Noticed a while back a retailer was being sued for selling the ripper version of 321 software. Wonder if our elected officials will do anything for us on fair use or continue to enjoy funding from the entertainment industry. A lot of the DC crowd likes the easy money. Seems our entertainment dollars are being used against us. Thought I'd drop the info in as 321 was the studios' test case.
Everyone should contact their elected officials to Washington and voice their stand on fair use laws.
