Windows Store apps restricted to 5 Windows 8 devices

article published on 20 January, 2012

Last month, Microsoft unveiled the Windows 8 Windows Store, where developers can sell apps. Starting in February, devs can sell apps for a minimum $1.49 up to $999. Like other app stores Microsoft will take 30 percent revenue, but if your app is popular and brings over $25,000, the cut is reduced to 20 percent. In-app transactions have the same split, if they use Microsoft's billing ... [ read the full article ]

30% or ever 20% seems way to high to collect for something you are only providing a portal to sell. Should brick and mortar stores change manufactures 30%, hell credit cards only take 3% of the transaction, i think that is still too high. I've thought for a while "Where is the mafia?", i use to thing "Ah, they went legit and are the ones really behind credit cards..." Well i think i need to assume they are not getting into on-line merchandising too...

It is this device restriction that drives legitimate users to piracy.

Microsoft bitches about the evils of piracy but adopts policies that encourages the practice...

EXAMPLE: I purchased a genuine W7 install disk but was driven to download a preregistered W7 install disk somebody shared on the web. I got tired of having to activate my computer via telephone >:(

I'm missing the point how you can even try to justify pirating anything here. The developer of an app and the user are both getting taken advantage of here in the current model. I'm missing how in any way you could begin to justify someone pirating anything here.

The problem to me is the abuse and power mickysoft and exert on developers, they work for days or longer to develop an app, after that they lose 30% of their revenue because they decide to sell it in the on-line store. So the developers will in turn need to mark up the price more to capture the lost money and the cost is passed on to users...

Out of the three parties in play here two are suffering because of Microsoft's practices. I really fail to see how in any way it makes a case for someone to pirate software. The user will get the benefit of what the developer created? How does avoiding payment to Mickey by pirating software not steal from money from the developer? The only thing I can see is argue against Mickysoft unfair, restrictive and monopolistic control over their phone platform is simply unfair. At no time would i think it justifies someone to steal software from the developer, remember in this case isn't Mickysoft but 3rd party app developers who you will be stealing from if your argument is correct.

I agree with ALL OF YOU!

And........Windows 8 is not going to sell.....and sure as HELL won't get adopted by any business.

Nice work MS with your B.S. greed. First taking a cut of Android.(Which I would like someone to explain to me WHY they get a cut of Android sales please) and now this.

Phoooey!

After watching this video, I am reminded once again how Touch-screen centric Windows 8 is. F that, F them and F this!!!!!! I don't know a single, solitary soul that has a touch screen anything........................................Oh wait, yes I do, Bestbuy and Frys do.
