I wonder why NOBODY had explored the transflective LCDs used by iPaq PDAs some 10 years ago. This is what killed almost all their Windows CE competitors, overnight. These LCDs drastically improved screen content visibility even in sunlight, without the need for backlight.

The current crop of all mobile phones, bar none, are almost impossible to read in sun light.
