Ok this is probably a very basic question, but here goes.

I am looking to edit a home movie, transfered to DVD. It already has chapters, that the dvd burner put in automatacally. I want to delete them and put my own in. Also, it doesn't have a menu. I want to take the raw video and be able to do those things.

I am guessing the first step would be to use dvd decrypter to put it on the HD. Or i could just copy it over, since it has no dss. from here i am not sure. I am guessing i would want to use some kind of editing software?

What kind?

Also, will i need to change the format of the video to edit it?

Please let me know. not looking for anything really fancy. just menus and chapter points where i want them.

Also. the DVD has some seperate video clips added to the dvd as different titles. I want them as chapters, not seperate titles.

Thank you.

Mike

I'd suggest that you use the Nero 6.0 suite. There are others out there, but Nero > all IMO. Nero Vision Express is, specifically, what you're looking for.

There are several places to get it very inexpensively, if you know where to look.

Hey there crash613, Welcome to our little corner of the web :-)

For your menus I love DVDLab - it's a little costly at about $79.00(USD) BUT it has a 30-day trial version to make sure it's what you want :)

Here's a guide for Nerovision -

Nero seems nice, except that editing videos, all you are able to do is snip some video off the beginning and tail end. you can't edit out of the middle. any suggestions on how to do this?

Hi Mike,

NeroVision Express 2 can cut a section out. When you have your video installed in the program, select edit movie. Now notice on the bottom of the preview screen a pair of scissors. Thats what you need to use.

Click on the scissors to start this feature. On the preview screen, note that there is a left slider and a right slider. Just position the sliders to isolate the portion you want to remove, click the scissors.
Notice on the movie timeline, your video is now in two different portions. You can apply a transition between the two portions or just leave them as they are.

Look for a how to split or cut a movie tutorial here:
