Check the 'R' wire. Make sure it is no longer than the distance from the chip to the contact point on the motherboard and also that it is not entangled with the rest of the wires to the BIOS. If it is, it will pickup signal bounce and the chip will not time the BIOS patching correctly. The spinning ball problem is simply due to the CMOS settings getting cleared, possibly you disconnected the CMOS battery inside while you were working.

hey
thanks for the quick responce.
my R wire is not entangled with any other wire, and my R is wraped with a stand alone wire and taped. but my other wires are overlapping but the steel isn't touching. and where would i find the CMOS battery.

You might still want to try making the 'R' wire as absolutely short as you can and still have it reach both ends and make sure it is by itself. It shouldn't be wrapped with another wire. I don't recall where the CMOS batter is located on v7 but look for a silver disc coin-cell batter labeled CR2032. It might be on a completely seperate PCB board on the DVD drive assembly connected to the motherboard by a wire with a small green nylon plug. That's how it's connected on some models. If the balls aren't spinning it might be still disconnected. If not, try resetting your clock and preferences. That should make the balls spin again.

thanks again
did it and its still the same problem.
this what mine look like http://www.weblogimages.com/v.p?uid=doug&pid=137305 without the burned mark on the 3.3v.
still reads my orginals. but not backups. the ground wire is it spose to go there, couple places i been to say solder it to the motherboard itself.

Hard to say just looking at the picture but it looks like your 'M' and 'U' contacts on the motherboard are extremely close to bridging. You might want to retry those and see if you can clean them up. Another possibility is that the RESET wire is getting grounded out. This would cause the chip to think that the RESET button was being held down and go into sleep mode which would explain why it works like a normal unmodded PS2. I also on my machine had a solder point that was making contact with the metal shielding around the motherboard when I reassembled the unit and corrected that by putting electrical tape over the solder points.

hey, that's a photo of my install, that weblogimages.com link above :) 'sall good.

any luck with your PS2? I haven't played ps2 in months cause my modchip is half in. My ps2 works -perfect- with the modchip out, regardless of that 3.3v burn mark, plus, I tried a different 3.3v mark, and still have the same results as you.

post if you've found a solution :) or shoot me a mail dougNOSPAM@weblogimages.com (yeah, nix that "NOSPAM" part of course)
