i have installed a lot of modchips (all magic3's) so i am not new to this. but recently i have had to purchase two magic3.1 chips from modchip.co.uk instead of my usual source. these chips came loose in a polythene bag without being sealed in an antistatic bag.
all solder points have been checked and i have found no bridging or wrong connections. when i boot the ps2 it goes to the red screen and doesn't recognise any backups at all.

could these chips be fakes? they have a sticker on them saying DVD9
i did wire points m,n,o,p to wrong legs at first, but corrected that.
can someone please help me i am stumped on this one :(

They are most definatly fake. The original Magic 3.1 chips do not support V9. Those are what I think is called the Magic 4.1 which are HK clones. However I have installed about 10 of those before and they worked no problem. You may have installed them wrong. I think one of the DVD points is differrent.
