I have been trying to burn dvd's with nero vision express on windows 98 OS,
but I have been having problems with running out of memory and my computer
crashing. I went out and bought an external 120 giga byte hard drive
thinking that this would solve the problem, which it didn't. I have been
advised that it is because Win 98 cannot store more than 4 giga bytes in any
temp folder and I was told to look into 'striping' or 'spanning' to solve my
problems. Can anyone give me an insight into this and how it can be done,
and whether it is possible to do it with Nero.

Kind regards.

It is true that you cannot store more than 4 giga bytes in a temp folder with 98. Have considered getting XP?

The 4GB limit should only be a problem with ISO files. It can be circumvented by saving files in VOB format.

We really need much more detailed information as to your system specs etc (e.g., memory, burner, burning process, programs used to rip/encode) and error messages being received - if any.

With such information, members may be able to offer constructive advice/suggestions.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies. I am using Nero vision express to convert divx/avi movies downloaded from the internet to dvd's, so I have been letting Nero vision express do the leg work of encoding them. I am unsure whether they are being saved as ISO or VOB files but would expect that it is ISO files if what you are saying is true. I have a Liteon 8X dvd burner, Win 98 OS, a 9.5 giga byte temp folder. The error messages are basically just letting me know that I have run out of memory, usually not long before the file is due to finish encoding.

I hope this helps, I suppose looking at your previous message the best thing for me would be to find out how to save them as VOB files from within Nero vision express if that is at all possible.

Thanks again.

9.5 GB freespace is quite marginal - for successful burning 10 to 15 GB is recommended to handle all the necesary transformations.

Unfortunatley I can't free up any more than this amount at the present. Is there any way to shrink the avi/divx files before encoding them and burning them on Nero Vision Express, as I usually don't have problems with any file of up to about 3 giga bytes in length.

Regards.
