Hi guys, hope you can help me out.
I just bought winAVI,(video convertor)
it creates vob files for me from avi, but nero cant burn them properly. Any comments.
winAVI outputs a .nav file with it, what ever that is,
but nero wont take it. I now when burning dvd's
software creates .ifo files & .bup files, do i need them, and if so how do i make them for my conversion of .avi?

I downloaded the program trial to see how it worked...
I opened the program and selected "DVD". Next, I selected an .AVI clip I have on my computer. (about 2 minutes of camcorder footage.) I selected a location and then started the process.
When the progress bar reached 100%, I received a few error messages:
Access violation at address 3555822D
Application threw an exception. Terminate now?
Access Violation...
Runtime error...
Next I went to the destination location and found this:
Disc 0 ->
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB.nav
Is this something that Nero can burn? No, not directly. I will make a guess and say that this VTS_01_1.VOB.nav has what a VTS_01_0.ifo file has... the DVD nav information.
This program can create a Mpeg 2 so select that instead of DVD and then use NeroVision Express 2 to make the DVD. Even better would be to not use this program at all and just input your .AVI into NVE directly.
IMHO this program is a buggy piece of S**t and I have already removed it from my computer. I tried to open it again and it gave me more address errors so I found the uninstall .exe and used it.
There are lots of .AVI converters out there in the $25-$30 range. This is the last one I would use.
Try TNPGEnc Source Creator or Cucusoft AVI to DVD converter instead.
I notice this program has a burn feature. Try inputing the converted files into that and see what happens.

You might just want to use WinAVI to convert to MPEG2 than author it using TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6 because that way you can make menu's and cut your movie into chapters. Although I had a problem with WinAVI. The Video bitrate won't match the audio. The Video bitrate for me was too high that's why I got an error on TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6 do not ignore that error because your dvd will not work properly than. The Video will go faster than the audio. Just a warning.

You can also use TMPGEnc to convert your file to MPEG2. That would be the best way because than you get to select everything the video bitrate and everything so when you go to author your movie you don't get any errors. Althought you might want to research thoroughly because it takes 20 hours to convert with TMPGEnc but the results are marvellous. I am having a little trouble with TMPGEnc though, because when I try to load my movie, it says something.. than it crashes.

the latest versions of winavi have solved the access
violation promblem something to do with dll files.
earlier versions also had a problem producing the correct ifo and bup files to go with the vobs and Nero would not accept them as valid dvd files.
one way to solve this is to delete the ifo and bup files produced by winavi and recreate then using IFOEdit.
first delete the ifo and bup files
open IFOEdit and choose create ifo's(bottom centre)
then close IFOEdit and then restart it
choose open (bottom left)
find your dvd movie folder and open the ifo file
choose getvts sectors(bottom left of centre)
that should have fixed the problem and Nero will accept and burn your dvd movie.
the latest version of winavi don't have this problem.
why bother with all of this well winavi is the fasrest converter around is easy to use and produces superb results

topper can you help with winavi i too think this is a great and easy conversion software and very fast but when i come to 100% complete i get the same error message that everyone is complaining about and are going around it or trashing winavi i think its great well if you have time to help a rookie then please help me if not disregard message and sorry for bothering you thanks or email me directly juangomez22@yahoo.com

you will ned to get the latest version of winavi which is 5.8.
with earlier versions i had the same errors occouring
at the 100% mark.
is was to do with the major dll file which the makers of winavi have since fixed.
any probs getting winavi 5.8 let me know.

Sorry to add on to this thread...But can this software convert rmvb to dvd as well? If not, what would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Yes, WinAVI can convert (to/from) RealMedia files as well. Both RM and rmvb files.
