Apple settles iPhone 4 'Antennagate' for $15

article published on 18 February, 2012

'Antennagate' has finally been settled. In the summer of 2010, Apple came under intense criticism when it was revealed their iPhone 4 device could lose complete cell signal when held in certain ways. This so-called "death grip" had everything to do with the placement of the iPhone's antenna and the casing of the smartphone. Dubbed 'Antennagate' for its large scale media coverage, Apple ... [ read the full article ]

So instead of taking the free fix that allows the phone to work properly, they decided to hold out and receive $15 while still having signal problems. Sounds kinda stupid if you ask me.

It's just too bad 5% of people choose to (maybe have to if they're disabled) hold their mobile phones in a funny way. :-)

Typical... 2-3 phone designs have come out now? Even if you sell the phone off as scrap I don't think you could get $15 for the thing. It's the lawyers that win every time. Strike another victory for justice.

This is one of those rare opportunities where waiting out for the legal lottery bites you in the ass.

I think you're thinking of Motorola DROID phones that go used for so cheap...as low as $50 compared to iPhone 4 at $275+.

No... not exactly, I was actually being a smart ass. But you're right the older Android stuff does go for cheap, as does the Blackberry stuff too. As for the old CrApple products still bringing a premium... I'd rather not even open that debate back up.

The title of the article is a bit misleading. Each person that didn't take the bumper will receive $15. Does anyone have a figure on how many were involved in the settlement that didn't accept the bumper? I've read about 25 million were involved which would make the settlement to the consumers around 375 million, but I don't know how accurate that is.
I do find it a little funny how Crapple touted it as the "thinnest" iPhone ever, that is until you installed the bumper to make it work correctly. Too bad for the Crapple buyers, guess you'll think twice and do some research next time.
As someone said earlier, the real winners are the lawyers. I'll take 30% of that settlement any day.
I guess Crapple will just have to lean on their Foxconn subcontractor a little more, and make up the difference.

So if Crapple did sell 25 million plus of those devices, who are we to believe? The million and a quarter people who actually had problems, or a fan boy like yourself? Though I would agree with you that if they bought an apple product maybe they were "disabled."

You're thinking like a tard for not seeing the point of this.

Holding out for 15 bucks is the ONLY and BEST way to punish a company of this size/magnitude as 15$ multiplied by the MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of IPhone 4 users is a serious monetary hit......PERIOD

Besides....they didn't know how much or how little they'd be getting. Surely many thought 50 or a 100 bucks.

Not a fanboy...just sometimes defend them (as well as others) against rabid ignoramuses.

Well then I applaud you for that. Crapple needs people like yourself; millions of them.

15 bucks?! Glad I took the $30 case instead, that was offered as part of the free "bumper".
