Samsung: We are not doing very well in the tablet market

Samsung executive Hankil Yoon has come clean today, admitting that the company "is not doing very well in the tablet market."

Simple. Lower the price, sell more. The Tablets are far too much for what they do. A $400 notebook does 10x as much and can be used as a full computer. The tablets are quite limited, even iPads are, so why invest in one. The HP Touchpad and the Blackberry Playbook are both good examples of what happens when you lower the price.

...is TOO EXPENSIVE!!!!!!if the tablets that is coming out going for $200-300 I will def get one, but $500 plus? HELL No!

EXACTLY... Finally somebody echoing what I've said repeatedly in the past. Sans the price drop... A price drop would be nice, but not necessarily the answer to everything. Everyone needs a toilet, just not a solid gold one.
Samsung makes great stuff. I own several of their products & will continue to do so, but I'm not going to burn a hole in my ass to do it. Same for a tablet. If I want a tablet to do the work of a notebook/laptop, then I'll buy a laptop... simple.
Basically, a tablet to me would be a bigger version of my phone. I'm not going to reply to an email on the thing, so buying a keyboard for a tablet is stupid - laptop. If I play very many movies on it I need a way to hook a hard drive to it or play an optical - again, laptop. ANY kind of IT, technical work I do, let's be honest - laptop.
Tablets really are nice. Just not over $250 worth of nice. And frankly, I expect a lot for that $250; seeing as I can rummage around the over seas retailers & see tablets for even half that.

I bout an HP Touchpad when its price dropped, I use it to browse the Internet while watching TV. I'd never pay $500 dollars for that. I have a netbook, which I bought for University, and it was less than the original price of the Touchpad and does a heck of a lot more. However, it doesn't have the battery life and convenience as the Touchpad.
But it seems companies are liking the idea of an instant "price drop", sell a few at a high price, then sell a lot at a lower price, then sell more at a higher price because of good reviews.

Why I did not buy a Galaxy Tab...
NO MEMORY SLOT OF ANY SORT! Not SD or microSD or anything.
Waiting for the next Transformer Prime release.

Actually the market is owned by Apple, Amazon and Barnes&Noble, but for some reason lots in the industry don't include the latter two.

BINGO!
Bought the Kindle Fire a month ago for $150. Rooted and sideloaded many apps that didn't come standard. Just as someone said above, it's a bigger phone without the phone! I didn't need to pay for features I'd never need in a tablet (GPS) and this thing is basically a toy to browse the web, though I have found myself doing a lot more reading and portable document carrying around with the Fire.
Now, would I have paid $500 for it? Heck's no! I didn't even pay that much for my brand spanking new 6 core, 16gb of ram, 1.5TB AMD desktop. Granted, convenience is the only real "need" for these tablets to begin with. I have 20/20 vision, but there's only so much I'm going to do on my phone and laptops aren't all that comfortable in my, er, lap!

I'm going to propose a shot-in-the-dark theory that the reason for Android tablet failings (like Samsung) compared to Apple is because of the type of consumers that, generally, gravitate toward Android or iOS. This is just voodoo sociology here, but in my own experience, Android consumers that would drop the necessary amount of cash on a tablet actually have no desire for what functionality a tablet offers, and realize they can get pretty much the same functionality out of their smartphones and/or laptops/ultrabooks (benefit of a full querty keyboard). iPad users, however, don't particularly engage in the cost/benefit analysis effectively, and purchase the iPad for brand recognition, status, or "fanboyism;" in other words, consumers that gravitate towards iPads treat them as toys will little regard for technological differences, and little more.
Just speaking in generalities here to delineate the two different types of consumers and their support of either OS.

@jackalguy... If I got you right...? You're proposing (in a nut shell) that 'say' Android folks are more utilitarian & Apple are more decorative? Not solely of course, everybody types & browses the internet, let's not be crass here, but that an Android crowd has a 'tool' oriented purpose, where as a Apple crowd has a more accessory orientation?
And no, I'm not trying to be flippant or jibe anyone. I'd like to be as quantitative as possible. We could actually be on to something here. I mean if Samsung were smart they would pay attention to this forum & take some notes...

Another excellent POV... I think it's been echoed in another forum here at AD, but yeah, even on a laptop with extra hardware on board. So why be offering such elaborate tablets if your not going to give the whiz bang toys to go along with it? For me I simply have to get my money's worth.
