I was looking at Meritline.com for Riteks and noticed these three types. I was just wondering what the differences are between the three, as that they seem to affect the prices. Ridata branded are the cheapest, followed by silver shiny, and silver matte is the most expensive.
Also, are the inkjet-printable dvds just as good? I read awhile back that the labels you print on and then stick to the top of the dvds affected their performance over time, and I was just wondering if inkjet-printable dvds have the same problem.
Thanks.

With inkjet printables they are matte white surface so they can go in a printer (some Epsons)held in a caddy thing that passes through it.there is no glue involved like a stick on label that can come adrift and screw up your player.I read a post somewhere from someone saying that you get a better burn from a white top disc because the laser reflects off the underside of the coating, can,t prove it,s true but I do use Ritek G04 -R,s printables myself but dont print the top (too tight to buy another printer)

I've been using RIDATA white inkjet printables DVD+R and Pioneer PRODISC Grade-A Silver inkjet printable DVD-R. I have had only 1 flawed disc out of almost 100 disc's burned. I print directly on them using an Epson R300 (Fantastic printer). As for silver matte and silver shiny -I don't think either are printable so its all a matter of personal taste.
I recommend www.Supermediastore.com as well. Great service and better prices than Meritline even with free shipping.

I have the Epson R300 as well :) .
Should I print on the dvd before or after the burn?
Also, can anyone clarify the difference between "shiny" and "matte"? If it's just appearance, it seems like a waste of money.

Medialife, so you don't run into the possibility of wasting ink, due to a bad burn, I would wait until after the DVD was burned and tested.

Other than trying them out en masse would a quick & dirty test of dvdr media be if you can make a copy of your backup that is stable and skip/error free ? Also if burning with DVD Decrypter and then using verify function if disc verifies okay does it mean it's a good disc or just a good burn or both? Neither? I have dvd identifier & Nero speed but looking for other ways to keep an eye on quality . OR I could just buy riteks & verbatims & such right! Thanks again my friends - shalom ! bigtoxy69

I have been using Ridata G04 shining, and I have never had a problem to play the disk on my Pionieer DVD player. I run out the stock, so I bought silver with Ridata logo G04, then I can play almost NO disks on the same DVD player. The DVD burner of PC can play the disk perfect. I have tried several firmware on the DVD burner (BTC1008 x4 ; I have not heard this is good drive but it was only $39.99), but the result was the same. I will try to play these on different DVD player later.
