OK here is what I got:

1. PS2 (No mod chip, no HDD, Have Network Adaptor)
2. PS2 Games
3. Sony DVD+/-RW PC Burner (see sig)
4. Nero 6.0 Ultra Full Burning Suite
5. DVD Decrypter

My PS2 does NOT have a mod chip. Does this rule me out from making backups? If not, then what do I need to make them and how exactly do I make them?

I have a couple used store-bought PS2 games that are pretty scratched up. They work most of the time but I really would rather make a DVD Backup of them if possible.

Thanks ahead of time. BTW - if there is a guide availble please link!

Thanks!

Athlon 64 3200+
1GB PC3200 DDR-RAM
Sony DRU-700A Double Layer Burner
ATI Radeon X800XL PCIe 16X 128MB
Windows XP Home

I think you will need a Mod-Chip or a boot disc in order to play back-up discs. Or you can use HDLoader to stor games on a Hard Drive in PS2.

You can use a slidecard but to be honest its not worth it since not all games/backups work using slidecard technique. Spend some cash and get your PS2 chipped.

DeadLocK is right...

A mod chip is much better than a swap card, but if you're like me and dont trust yourself to mod your PS2 and don't know anyone who could do much better, just go for the slide card. It's still really nice for playing your backups and I have found it to work very well for the most part.

The slide card is necessary if you do not have a no-solder modchip or a flip-top installed in your PS2 so that you can remove the disc from the drive without pressing the Eject button. Installing a no-swap modchip is much more difficult but eliminates the need to pre-boot the PS2 with a boot disc such as Swap Magic prior to inserting your PS1/PS2 game disc backup. You can also buy HD Loader and when used with a compatible hard drive and Sony Network Adapter it will allow you to install original PS2 game discs to the drive and they will be playable simply by booting from the HD Loader disc.

You should get a modchip as they load nearly all games. I fyou are not good at soldering get a shop to do it for you. A few good mod chips are dms3, which can be updated via cd, and the magic v which is also a good chip. Fliptop and slide card fail to load games sometimes and are much more hassle each time you want to play a backup.

i know many people more than happy with swap discs, and flip lids are cool retro style, mines see through blue and looks ace and swap discs and flip lid for £33.00, bargain, not everyone can install chips or afford the hefty price people charge to do it for them... EVERYONE can use a swap disc....

I have 2 ps2's one is modded with a DMS3 chip and the other has a fliptop and swapmagic discs.

Both of these have worked great for me,

With the DMS3 playing backups is as easy as playing originals, put them in and they go. The negative side to the DMS3 was the $125 it cost for the chip and installation.

Now the Fliptop with swapmagic dics only cost $35 and anyone with a screwdriver can intall it in 10 minutes. It has so far booted every game that my DMS3 has.

Its a matter of deciding if you want to pay extra money to not have to swap discs to load your backups. If I had not been spoiled by the DMS3 I would be more than happy just having the fliptop.

It is true that you cant play with your modchip on but if you turn it on you can play yuor originals. If you want to play with your backups online then you must patch them, this is because of the dnas checks.

Yes those backups would work with a modchip. I have a magic 3 and driver 3 works for me. Slidecard is picky about newer games thats why i dislike it. Go for a modchip such as magic v or dms3 both very good chips. The only upside i see to the slide card and fliptop is that they are easy to fit and are cheaper than modchips but in my opinion i would go for a modchip.

I made my slide card from the template on this site. Just used an old Blood donor card! It works great with swap magic for all games Ive tried so far (including Splinter cell pandora tomorrow) Still having NCAA 2005 football freeze after 1st play.. don't now what thats related too. I did get online with it though. Just patched with the PSINFO / DNAS_ID tools.

talking of any piracy will get you band from afterdawn so i would suggest editing your posts and go else where if you want to talk about piracy.

When you have a modchip you will still be able to boot your dvd+r and dvd-r. Go for the dms3 if you have the money because this is future proof and will play all upcoming games. The magic 5k6 is also another good chip.
