AT&T gives pre-paid GoPhones more data

article published on 18 April, 2012

AT&T has updated its pre-paid GoPhone plan to add more data. For the same price, the carrier is doubling the data, for all tiers. The 50MB plan costs $5 per month, the 200MB plan costs $15 per month and the 1GB plan will set you back $25 per month. AT&T says the new data plans will take effect starting April 22. All data plans require a GoPhone $50 per month Unlimited Talk and ... [ read the full article ]

Why do we continue to allow these companies to price their shit out like that? I don't want or need "Minutes" or "Voice" plans. Why aren't there Data only plans. No caps, no throttle, I would pay one hell of a premium for that kind of service. Instead we get the time warners, the atts, cablevision, comcast, and even when they do give them more data they don't ever really raise the bar.

If I can piecemeal the data, why the hell am I forced to double down on the other crap?

Why can't I just get a cheap phone with limited data, limited texts and limited minutes for my dad?

I mean WTF??? REquiring a $50 Unlimited plan???

Oh, Im sorry... Did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours?

Shrug...go Tracphone. For $25 I got a phone with a full QWERTY keyboard and triple minutes. $40 card gives me 600 minutes and three months to use them. Minutes carry over as long as you get a new card in the three month period. Texts cost .5 minutes (or maybe even less...been a long time since I looked).

That's about as cheap as you get.

I thought that ATT was throtling data service because their networks were being overloaded??? So they are not SO overloaded that they can double the data for their tracphone(which is pretty much what this is)??? Something smells fishy. When will the first throttled person sue over this???

Well...my daughter's phone is on either AT&T or T-Mobile. I'd have to check the sim# to be sure (http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2011/12/how-to-get-tracfone-net10-or-straight.html).

While Tracfones do data, they're made for only very light data usage. Their Android offerings are on Sprint and force you to take the more expensive $50/mo plan.
