Any Comments on Proxies and Experienced Speeds?

Using a BT Client and PW. PW reports blocking packets with the names. that frankly, frighten me. Recently been reading quite a bit on VPNs and Proxy Servers. I also see that their are public proxies available too. While reading all that I can or have found I have not seen any posts on the WWW where someone is getting real good speeds and that has been verified by other posters. It is always mentioned VPN and Proxies is a good and safer alternative but it doesn't seem to be a real viable alternative from what Ive read. I did read the post here about Anonx. Went to their forum but could not find any page describing their services in detail, speeds, anonymity, etc. Is anyone using a proxy and what kind of speeds are you getting? I'm im in the states. Any specifics or links to such providers or info on your own personal experience whould be appreciated. Thanks all.

Only anonymous Proxy I ever tried with P2P was a Socks 5 Proxy with eMule, the speeds were ok, but source gathering and everything seemed slower!

Thanks Dela, When you say slower your naturally comparing your own accustomed speeds. My best speeds experienced to date have been around 900Kb. I would settle for half that if it gave me more peace of mind. I guess my question was more about specific closed proxies people are using and some guidance setting it up. Or perhaps someone can point me in the direction of a good tutorial. If it sounds as though I don't know what I'm talking about it is because I don't. :)Thanks!

Ah there arnet really any free public proxies or anything, ud have to find a pay service!

I download at 1128Kb/s with AnonX. Works great. Very little setup time. I have been using them since February.

The way it works is

My PC <--encrypted pipe-->Gateway (ID Mask)<--->WWW
