Those are blanks with the RED wrapper. Are these better than the PURPLE wrapped 50 pack??? I just received two 25 packs (I ordered a 50 pack) of the Shiny silver in which I've yet to try. Actually I haven't opened the box yet in the event I might exchange them.

larrabee,
Although the Ritek 50 bundle I bought from Newegg was DVD+ I just want to make a comment on the quality of the red packaged types. There has been some discussion on the boards stating the purple wrapped ones may be repackaged disks that were returned from a huge shipment to Office Depot, I don't know for a fact if it's true or not, others did mention it was safe to buy the red labeled ones to which I did.

I checked the disks with DVDInfoPro and below are results:

Media Information
Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Media code/Manufacturer ID RICOHJPNR01
Media Product Revision Number 02h
Free Blocks 405405696
Free Capacity 4.38GB(4.70GB)
Book Type DVD+R
Media Type DVD+R
Media Id Code Speed 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.4x 3324KBps
Data area starting sector 30000h
Linear Density 0.267um/bit
Track Density 0.74um/track
Number of Layers 1

When I opened the cake box I noticed the entire lot had what appeared to be glue around all the outside edges, very rough looking compared to other media I have that all had clean smooth edges.
In all fairness though, I have burned about half of the pack with no coasters and they all play well in both the computer and several desktop DVD players.

How they will perform in a year or so is another unanswered question.
