article published on 17 May, 2012

Amazon is looking to add advertisements to the welcome screen of the popular Amazon Kindle Fire tablet. The news comes via an executive at an ad agency who says Amazon approached them. The ads will not come cheap, however, with an agency needing to spend at least $600,000 for any package on the tablet. Each ad campaign will run for two months and also include inventory from the "Special ... [ read the full article ]

So.. You buy this device... and you still get ads?

Amazon, you are a prime example of corporate greed and disregard for customers.

Ridiculous.

I'm sure it will lead to a cheaper next gen Kindle Fire..like perhaps $125.

Sure. But when they introduce in current Kindle Fires through a system update or something? So long as that doesn't happen, that's fine.

"Turn out the lights... the parties over...", Willie Nelson.

It would be great IF it did indeed bring down the prices of the Fire, but greed usually wins out in these scenarios.

I would expect a backlash from current owners, myself included, if they do this... good thing I use GoLauncherEX instead of their default carousel.

You guys pretend like you've never heard of Amazon before. Amazon is just about as pro-consumer as possible and has hands down the best customer service.

Calm down... I buy a load of crap from Amazon, but still have my issues. Like any other vendor, there is always the sweet with the sour & not always worth the electrons to go into specific detail.

Suffice to say, in this particular case, take an example of Hulu using adds for re-airing televised shows. People want to piss & moan that there's still adds, but I can readily agree it's only 2 ("two") per break & maybe 20 seconds per break at that.

No, it's not exactly a beer burrito turd served at its core, but some of us feel IT MAY TURN OUT THAT WAY!!! You know, the old & crusty, been bit in the ass a few too many times by the system guys...

At first it was, "the full priced models didn't have adds", now it's all of them have "unobtrusive" adds... So if it's raining outside, why is it the back of my leg is the only thing getting wet?
