I am finding that when DVD X Copy Platinum 4.0.3.8 (RI) version is first installed, it reads a DVD in about 42 minutes and burns it on a 4X Memorex DVD+R in about 8 minutes using a Plextor 708A writer. However, Installing DVD Decrypter on the same computer and using it just once immediately extends my burn time to almost 52 minutes (from 8 minutes) on the same burner using DVD X COpy Platinum. I also find the same problem if I use DVD Rescue for the first time. It is certainly weird. Can anybody help to explain what is going on and how to correct it.

Yup,

It was identical length movie and full movie. I actually reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP and then DVD X Copy again, and it went back to burning in 8 minutes until I decided to use DVD Decrypter again and then the same problem. I wonder what is being changed when decrypter is installed after Xcopy platinum.

try updating your aspi layer:
http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/

And is your burner's firmware up to date?

Yup, I did the firmware update as the first step. I don;t know how to update the aspi layer. I just don;t want to have to reformat and reinstall Windows XP again.
