Sony, Microsoft confirm: PS4, Xbox Next will have optical drives

Although there have been rumors that both Sony and Microsoft are planning to ditch optical drives for their upcoming consoles, both the console makers have decided against the thought.
Sony did consider moving to download-only, but ultimately decided against the scheme for the upcoming PS4, codenamed Orbis, reads a new WSJ report.

It will never stop anyhow. Even if a single player game requires online access to play, there are ways to circumvent that. If you wanted to play multi-player you just create you own VPN server. So no matter how you look at it, hacking and bootlegging will never cease.

At least they have some brains....... that and SD is not cheap enough to go without disc.
Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

LMAO as if everyone on the planet has a fair enough connection speed to take on a Blue ray sized download :)) Then you have those poor sukazzz that live in a non competitive market with ISP data caps. One of my friends that I play XBL with only gets like 7 GB's a month then it drops to telephone modem speed :))
No time for Leap frog!!!

Duh! Knew this was going to be the case. As much as I hate optical formats, being that it's dramatically old and antiquated, t's kinda like cars going all electric......society just won't accept that as of yet. Optical is here to stay for at least 7-10 more years.

The PSPgo was a failure because it was released at the end of PSPs life. When all used games were $5-10, you had to purchase all the games off PSN NEW for $40. The PSP also didn't support WPA or 802.11g which was a big thing. I'm sure a lot of people returned the PSP because they couldn't get it connected to their networks.
If the PSP go was released initially, without any other PSP out there, it would have done decently.

Yup, the PSP go main problem was lack of PSP disc support.
As much as the choir here damned non disc issues the mouth breathing zombie consumer public will eat whatever they are fed and like it... sadly......

Just because the game is download only does not mean it can't be cracked. Until most of the world has very fast and unlimited transfers (no cap) with an affordable price, a direct download only console will fail. Who would want to pay full price for a game and then possibly pay an overage charge because the game you downloaded was massive and put you over the cap. On top of that with very slow transfer speeds it could very well take you a day or days depending on the speed of your internet. This point in time it's not a good idea in the future yes it will make sense. Also they need to let people sell or transfer purchased digital content, just like you can sell the hard copy of the game. But for now continue to still let people have a choice as some like to buy digital copies, but not everyone can or likes to do it.

Anyone familiar with Onlive? Forget download games, streaming will be the way of the future. Some of you will think I'm nuts, but If you see what they can do now with services like Onlive and with todays average connection - WOW!

I don't believe this article at all. You are telling me that Reps never thought about how this couldn't work? "Oh, yeah, what about people without internet?" This does not say anything about preventing used games to play on the new concoles. All they need to do is give each game a code like PC games and its all over. Who would buy a game if they couldn't play multiplayer with it?
