I hope I'm in the right panel--if not, please redirect me. I've been downloading a TRV130 into a Sony Vaio computer successfully for about 2 years--every couple of weeks or so. Absolutely no problem in any part of it--firewire, download, capture, etc. Last week I hooked it up as usual, and I get nothing but a blue screen. There is no error message. I can make the camera itself work through the firewire--forward, reverse, and stop, but when I hit the play button to do the actual viewing and capturing, it briefly flashes the minutes and seconds position of the cassette, and then displays dashes all the way across in the "play" window. I can't get anything else to work, except that I can get both screens to display (in blue only). And obviously since I can't get "play" to work, I can't get "capture" or "save" to work, either.

BTW, I know the cassette is fine--I can view the video I took through the viewfinder of the camera--just can't get the computer/camera link to work. Remember, this is a new problem--last used about 3 weeks ago with absolutely no problems. I like blue, but not here. This is a business application, so I really, really need some help ASAP. I've already been troubleshooting for a week with no luck.

In searching for the reason my Sony VAIO desktop PCV-R536DS computer suddenly stopped receiving video with its Dvgate software from my Sony TVR-130 camcorder, I find that, in the Control Panel under Multimedia
Properties, the Video Compression Codecs all have a small red dual loop figure attached to the icons. The Audio Compression Codecs also have the same mark. I am not sure this red marking means trouble, but it certainly appears likely to me. I believe all the trouble started when I downloaded the Microsoft updates for computer security.

I have downloaded the updated Dvgate software, and while the old software would still operate the camcorder but not show video in the window, the
updated software does neither. In attempting to get something to work, I purchased Soni's Movie Studio software, thinking that in loading new software, whatever problem had developed with the Dvgate would be avoided with the new program. Unfortunately, it does not even recognize the camcorder at all. It gives me an error message saying that "The device
'Sony DV Camcorder could not be opened. Please made sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user." Foiled again!

Is there a way to fix the Codecs, assuming they are indeed not functional?
