According to Bloomberg, Amazon is developing a smartphone that will look to directly compete with Apple's iPhone. Foxconn is building the device, and helping with design, say the sources. That just illustrates how screwed up the patent system has become. Instead of using patents as an incentive to innovate as originally intended, they are being used as weapons to stifle competition. Of course Amazon is one of the biggest offenders itself, with patents on "one click" shopping and such.
