I've scoured & searched, but I can't see anyone with the same problem, so here goes. Hope someone can enlighten this relative idiot.

My Radeon 9600XT graphics card comes with a breakout 'dongle' with s-video in/out connections. I'm trying to use this VIVO facility to capture footage from a Samsung Hi-8 camcorder using an s-video lead (the Samsung has s-video out). I'm using Pinnacle Studio 8. I click on 'Start Capture' & Pinnacle starts the clock. I set the camcorder to 'play' & nothing happens. I've tried toggling from AVI to MPEG in Pinnacle's settings, but no change. I've tried using Windows Movie Maker but I get the same result - nothing.

Any ideas, anyone? Am I just being thick in thinking that the Asus VIVO thing ought to capture video? Do I need a separate PCI capture card?

I've checked to see that the WDM capture drivers are installed. They are. I read in one thread that it mattered with ATI what order you installed their suite of drivers. Could this be the problem?

Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance & apologies if you've dealt with it before but I really can't find anything in the forum search.

Well, similar problem here, too..
Seem that everything is OK with my NVDIA Geforce4 Ti 4200 with AGPx8,
Videocamera is Sony HI8 CCD-TRV59E PAL.
Using MovieMaker updated version which I find out great for 30 sek videoclips from digital camera, now I wanted to capture the Hi8 videos from Sony analog video camera to my computer/WMM and no way I can figure out how to connect the cables between videocamera and computer, I have sevral different cables with NVDIA and with camera but nothing works..
Searched from Sony.com and there is no word how to connect the videocamera to computer. Have no idea what kind of cables (outputs in english? sorry it is my 3rd language) I need to buy, do I need video-S type cable?????
I have many analog videos which I want to edit in Win. Movie Maker and then save them to CDR.
Tryed for monthes time to time and nothing:(
Thank you for any possible help !!!

Hi All

Thanks (mild sarcasm only) for all your help. I think I've finally sorted out my own problem here (only taken three months). To wit:

* Pinnacle Studio 8 is quite limited. Although it theoretically supports analog(ue) capture, you can't alter anytrhing in 'settings' to make sure that your ATI Rage graphics card's s-video port is the thing being used. Same with Windows Movie Maker. Both crap, then.

* The 'breakout box'/dongle (s-video/composite VIVO) that comes with the ASUS 9600XT DOES WORK as a capture device. You just need to use the right software...

* So far I've been having successful capture from a Samsung Hi-8 camera (& I wasn't before) using PowerDirector 2.1. The program allows you to configure capture so that ATI Rage Theater is selected, but also that s-video is selected as the physical medium. This seems to sort everything out. All of a sudden we can get our July holiday footage onto the PC. Not tried burning it yet, but we'll see...

* If you do use it, don't forget to press 'Record' as well as 'capture'...

Best wishes to all
& thanks but no thanks to all you so-called enthusiasts out there
