HDLoader size question

If one has the PS2OWNZ multi-DVD version of HDLoader and the image was only around 800 MB, would one have to throw in, say, dummy files to fill out the rest of the DVD space in order to be able to install larger DVD games? I read that this was the case with the CD version, and I was able to install 1 GB games fine, but games (roughly since HDLoader estimates) 3 GB in size kept getting read errors at around the 30-35% mark, which lends credence to my assumption.

Seeing as how I don't have my RWs in yet, I don't want to risk blowing a +R disc if I'm wrong.

you just refresh with a bigger game (or swap magic dvd) before installing the backup.
