I started using dvdshrink in combination with dvdecrypter flawlessly about 6 months ago. About two months ago, i started to notice that the dvds that i burned played great on my dvd player with the exception of about 8-14 brief (less than one second) periods where the movie all of a sudden looks distorted. The distortion looks like when the tv blocks out images with distorted pixels over what they don't want to be seen. I tried reinstalling the whole thing, decrypter shrink and imagetool with newer versions to no avail. I recently found out it was actually dvdshrink that caused the problem since it is after reencoding that the problem occurs. Anyone with any ideas?

The problem you are having is usually caused by cheap-poor quality blank media. Try using a known good brand of media.

Actually, i have verified that the problem is present even before i burn into a dvd by opening the reencoded file on dvdshrink and then letting it play and seeing the distortions. Does anyone out there have any ideas? Is there another free software out there that basically does what dvdshrink does? I would appreciate any help.

Possibly overcompression. What is Shrink telling you the compression ratio is? If below 60% you need to re-author and remove some of the junk like trailers or extras.
Shrink is the best FREE software out there.

yes, i use deep analysis and other times i divide the main files into 2 dvds so that analysis is no longer necessary. I have no idea what made this happen since before it was working perfectly. If anyone knows any alternative software to dvdshrink that basically does the same thing please let me know. Thanks for all the help guys.

I have defragmented the drive at least 4 times the last month. My hard drive is 40 gig and i have about 30+ gigs of free space so it shouldn't be a problem. I guess what i am going to do is to totally erase my hard drive and reinstall windows xp. Hopefully, this would resolve the problem and if it doesn't, well i guess it would be time to get a hammer and tear this computer to pieces. Thanks for all the help guys and if someone knows something that might help i would welcome any recommendations. Thanks...

Before you reformat the drive, it might be a good idea to scan it for errors, if you haven't already done so.
Also, you might want to run a memory test of some sort, to check your RAM.

msequeir, how much memory do you have? Do you run any other program while your CPU and SHRINK are conversing? Do you know how busy your CPU gets during the rip?

I don't think SHRINK is causing your problems. You may know that a 'new and improved' version of SHRINK is about to be released.
If you do want to try a different program, download the free trial NERO Suite and use Nero Recode2 for your rip. You will need Decrypter though to remove the encrypton. Go to:
