Converting .RAM to .MPEG. then to .GIF?

Are there any free programs available online that can convert a .RAM (real player video) to a .MPEG? From there, are there any free programs that can convert a small portion of a .MPEG to .GIF? Thanks for any help,

1. TMPGEnc might be able to do the conversion from RAM to MPG

2. You could also use TMPGEnc to convert RAM to AVI and then Vdub to convert AVI to JPG stream and then any gif-animation program to compile JPGs to an animated gif
