I actually wasn't sure whether to post this here or in DVD ripping. I'm trying to convert some dvd episodes of Gundam Wing to DivX on my computer, and the audio isn't syching properly. About every 8 seconds, it skips, like the audio rate isn't the same as the video. By skipping they stay matched, but it's pretty annoying. I've tried everything I can think of and some stuff I read made it a bit better (it used to just cut out for some scenes) but the problem persists. I'm using DVDx v 2.0. If anyone has some time to help, please do.
MESSAGE UPDATE: Just thought I should mention, I'm about 85% sure the issue is with the video, not the audio. Changing the output frame rate changes how badly the audio is out of synch. The setting that's best for audio also tends to stop encoding before the end of the file. Sorry about the update.

What video framerate did you choose? Sounds like you should choose a slower one. :)

640GB [4x160GB, 7200, 8MB]

Actually, it's weird. When I use any framerate without force 24Hz, the video is way too fast. The audio synching is terrible, and the encoding ends before the bar at the top ever reaches the right hand side of the window. The framerate I choose really doesn't seem to change anything. But when I put on detect prog. 24Hz and force 24Hz, it gets much better with only a little skipping in the audio.

if force film isn't working try telecide.

K, I'm not sure if I indicated this well enough earlier, but I'm a n00b as far as dvd ripping and encoding goes. I tried looking up some stuff about telecide and IVTC, but I haven's been able to find how I can apply that to DVDx or, if I can't, then what program(s) I need to apply it.

OK, I don't know Gundam Wing (what the heck is it anyway?) but doesn't matter, if it is NTSC then it is either 30fps or 24fps. Hopefully it is the latter, much easier.
I think you have 24fps because you said if you do not force film, then the video is way too fast for the audio.
You are lucky, because 30fps stuff is either telecined or it is interlaced. Telecined stuff gets 'corrected' back to 24fps by using IVTC. interlaced stays at 30fps but gets de-interlaced. Both are a minor pain in the butt.
Assuming you achieve synch at the start of the program, this audio jerking is not good. Your AVI should be interleaved every 12 frames (approx twice/second). I interleave every 10 frames: better performance but tiny size penalty. You sound messed up and I dunno if this info will help you out.
I think you need to re-group and try a nice simple frame-server package like GordianKnot
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gordianknot/GordianKnot.RipPack.0.32.beta.Setup.exe?
Perfect results each time, every time...
You must first determine this about Gundam Wing: Film, Telecine or interlace? If it is NTSC it will be 1 of the 3.

Here is some useful info, let us know how you're doing.

Right, so, having spent an hour or so trying to find guides and whatnot for gordian knot, I finally managed to encode a file into an AVI. Unfortunately, there was no audio. When I tried it again, I got this repeated error saying "Avisynth open failure" about 50 times. Half the guides I came across were from different versions, so I was half guessing on some of the stuff. I'm not sure what I did wrong, so if someone would please link me to a guide for the version of GK given me by The_OGS, that would be very helpful. Thanx everyone for your time and help. I'm working on it ^^;
btw, according to the preview I ran on one of GK's sub-programs, the file I'm trying to encode has a bitrate of 24.9-something and is film at about 85%

NM! After tooling around some more, I got a perfect rip. I'm still not sure what happened the first time, but I think I've got the hang of it now. Thanx everyone for all your help and support!

Good for you ;-)
Something musta messed up before.
They will put interlaced credits, animation or sometimes Computer Graphics into films, that will bring DVD2AVI's prediction down, sometimes to below 90%
