T-Mobile to offer unlimited data, without throttling

While T-Mobile has always offered unlimited data, it has never truly been 'unlimited' as customers with 3G and 4G phones began seeing 2G/EDGE speeds once they reached the 2GB plateau.
Today, the carrier has moved away from the throttling; as long as you pay a little extra.

everyone complains about t mobiles coverage, but all throughout Oregon and Washington I never had an issue and I had them for 6 years, the only reason I switched to ATT was because it was cheaper through my work, and then I immediately started experiencing dropped calls

i agree as i see my friends call others thru their cellphones\landlines to others on landlines\cellphones. they even have called me on my landline with their cellphones as i don't have nor want a cellphone.

I guess you guys must be much older than I am then, I call landlines when I order pizza and call my grandmother that's it. My parents who are in their 50's don't have landlines, neither do my Aunts or Uncles who are 70. Cell phones are so cheap now that landlines are obsolete, I don't understand the point or see the reason to waste money on something that is primitive like a land line.

What I said about sprint is 100 percent correct, 450 land line minutes,unlimited minutes to any cell phone in the country(regardless of carrier), unlimited data and unlimited text is $80 a month before tax, I know this for a fact because I sell it

What on earth are you talking about? Nearly 90% of businesses use landlines phones and how many businesses capture cell base calls? The number is enormous. As strange as this may sound, everyone does not own a cellphone.

You know, my contract with Verizon is up here in a couple of weeks so I've been courting the idea of one of those 'pay as you go' programs. Talk about a kick to the nuts! Not only does T-Mobile throttle you after 100mb (this is what the sales goon is telling me, not some misinterpretation on my behalf), but that the 2GB ceiling is still on the phones, while it is still an additional premium cost as well (i.e., purchasing a smartphone).
All of this boiling down to Russ biting the bullet, purchasing a new phone that's still an over bloated refurb & hope to hell I can root it while maintaining the unlimited 'grandfather' clause I got way back when or 'damn the torpedo' & just do with simple phone & text.
I suppose my case is simple as it was helpful to have the tethering option, but out of approximately 4-6 years of use I only "needed" that option twice. Internet activity & email on that small of a screen is f*ing tedious at its best.
I just offer up the information as lessons learned & objectivity for those interested.

Cherish it while you can.........grandfathered or not.....you'll be paying up rather soon as Verizon and ATT are going to throttle or charge you, essentially eliminating the "unlimited". Sorry buddy.

that last line about sprint having terrible data speeds is pure bs as anybody with half a brain can figure out since it all depends on where you are. At my house I get a minimum 4Mbps but mostly around 7 and, I shit you not, sometimes 12Mbps down. Up maxes at 3Mbps. Latency is somewhat of an issue for high intensity application such as dumping shotty blasts during HALO sessions on XBOX Live but I can deal with it. If I go to the park 2 miles down the road though I get no 4G. I can deal with that. I can't deal with shady billing, dropped calls, crappy customer service or limitations on something that I pay for. Or worst of all, hellacious insurance problems.

I had to turn my T-mobile off. It came with free voice and data roaming because their network sucks and everyone knows it...then they cut data roaming to 100MB per month and I hit that before I had 120MB total...then they totally stopped roaming and I couldn't even make calls from most places, and when I did get a call thru, it would drop when it should have transferred to the next (non T-Mobile) tower. In a period of just 2 months they went from a discount AT&T with extra towers to an overpriced Boost Mobile-Wannabe. Now they offer unlimited data...woopie f**k...it is only data on their network, and you would hit the 100MB roaming data limit long before that if not for the fact that they turned roaming off and you won't get anything at all. Unless you are in some strange situation where you never leave a major city, you get their fake 4G in your house, and there is no wired broadband available, the deal is worthless. More than that, even if you bring your own phone and go without contract, they will automatically start you on a two year contract without your permission, and will renew it automatically as well. Customer service doesn't even deny it...it is in the fine print of the 200 page contract required just to turn service on.
T-Mobile had a chance to go big when they got the money and network from AT&T after the whole buyout went bust, but instead they decided to try to make a quick buck on their customers by screwing them over royally...I'll buy a nice cigar and some good brandy the day they file for bankruptcy.

T-mobile sucks. I kind of think both T-mobile and Comcast are a lot alike, as companies. They both seem to make crappy business decisions, crappy for their customers anyways. Lots of drops, and their menu's throughout make no sense whatsoever. I'm stuck though, because my mom is letting me get a $10 line on her account, and she has had T-mobile for years. At this point, I've had every major cell carrier, and my vote is with Verizon.

It's like I told my kids (who are basically grown now, but I told them then), if you have the money - get your own phone. Then it's your call (don't necessarily mean the pun).
You're not defying your mom, you're just getting a better deal & service despite. Maybe she'll start to see you're growing up in a way & that you had 'her' best interests in mind as well.
She just got used to T-mobile & she don't want to change. Probably doesn't think they'll change her old number over & a whole bunch of other shit that's typical with changing a plan.
If you're old enough you can afford around $35 a month you can at least get a phone for texting & calls. I mean this statement in kind (i.e., I not being hateful), grow up a bit more (unless you're like between 10-13, then you're stuck for a while) & take the bull by the horns. Take a bit more responsibility. Man up a bit. It's good for you & Mom.
Plus you'll learn some more about these rat bastard phone companies that you never wanted to learn.
