Betamax video capture gets interference during analaog

Hi ppl

I have done a number of VHS to PC capture using the analog passthrough technique. I want to make dvd videos from Betamax. However, as soon as I connect the firewire plug to my camcorder, the previously smooth picture gets interence lines across the whole screen.

i tried to move the devices as far apart as I could, about 1.5m but that didnt lessen the interference.

Any suggetions?
