I have a D-Link 604 router connecting 2 PC's. I have a rather large bandwith DSL service connected. I followed the instructions and opened up the ports that WinMx uses, but still get such varied upload and download speeds it seems that it's blocking them. I have one system AMD Athalon 3200/XP but I download(P2P) to my Celeron 2.4 with Windows98. The Athalon rarely gets connected to the Net. So I know there is no firewall in the Win98 OS. Is it the router? Is there a better router that would open the throttle wider for better and more consistant downloads/uploads? Almost wish there was no firewall in the router at all. Can someone help? Give me some advise?
If it's not too expensive I would get another router if it would make a difference.
Thanks for any help or advise you can offer!

Short of putting your system in the DMZ there isnt really a way to be "sure".

The only routers I know that allow "throttling" are wireless ones.

1. You can disabled it.
2. I wish so to, the world would run out of IPv4 and transition to IPv6
3. Aside from #2, the firewall is good... it lets you share internet

You've got a pretty decent router all around no need for a new one

As for the stuff you're downloading... do they have a lot of sources etc?
