Apple has confirmed it will be shutting down its failed Ping service on September 30th. The company is no longer accepting new members, either. Apple threw a few million at this but I think it was only to strengthen their negotiation stance with Facebook. Steve Jobs acknowledged their there is effectively only one social network.
