I have set up Nero BackItUp to back up the 'My Documents' folder to cd-rw at the same time every day.
Trouble is, it won't do it on it's own as when it kicks in it says 'the disc is not empty, do you want to erase the disc?'.
If I have to be here to click on yes or no then what the hell is the point of me using the scheduler.
Any suggestions?

it's a cd-rw, otherwise it would cost me 365 discs a year.

meaning is it a CD that you Have used and then forgotted to re-format the disc so u can use it next time?,

thats the only reason it would ask for a blank disc, is if you havent erased the previous days data

just out of interest tho - why do you want it to do that?

Why do you need to Back-up your My Documents folder everyday ?

Do you make that many changes that you need to backup it that often.
Maybe once a week would more be like the timeframe.

As loner said, as the disc has data on it, its not 'Blank; therefore it will ask for you to press something. I dont think there is an opinion to overcome this message.

Maybe try another Back-up software?

The closest you might be able to get away with is using the Image Recorder. Short of that, the Nero solution is not an automated backup program

Not going to bother with BackItUp anymore. Did a fresh install of xp last night and when it came to doing a restore of my documents folder it said it couldn't do it because the file names are too long.
Probably easier to drag the folders to the cd-rw and then copy it back when I need to.

I got Norton Ghost 2003, don't know how to work it yet. Can't figure out whether I need a separate boot disc to put the saved image onto a new formatted hard drive.

If you go into Nero BackItUp's File->Preferences->Expert Features

You will find an option to allow Nero BackItUp to 'Erase rewriteable disc automatically' so that it will not come up with this prompt anymore. Just don't forget you have this enabled, or you could loose some valuable data.

Also, when file names or paths are too long, meaning longer than the 256 path limit or the 64 character Joliet file name lenght, Nero BackItUp will convert the files to 8.3 character naming scheme. And when you use Nero BackItUp to restore these same files, it restores the FULL File name and Path Name automatically.

Craig

Decided to take a different route,
I put a shortcut to one of my drives on the desktop and then drag and drop the relevant folder onto it whenever I feel like.
It asks if I want to overwrite the currently saved file, which of course I do, and that's it.
I can make hard work of anything.
