Why not use 2 audio streams when ripping?

Hello
I'm new in the forum.
I have a question.
A lot of people, when they ripping the DVD and converting it to AVI (XviD or DivX), they ripping it with 1 stream of audio: 2 channels or 5.1 channels.
My question is why don't they ripping and converting it whith 2 streams?
I'd tried it and it works pefectly, and I think it's more effective.
I'm sorry if my English is not so good, I'm from Israel and my language is Hebrew.

DavidZLSD: I believe most people like to maximize the amount of space available to encode to the video and not the audio. Adding a 2nd audio track will decrease the amount of space given for video encoding.

if space is not an issue sure, i do that. will do from game extract that have the same credits but a different end song/music. silent hill 2 for example

But when you encode a 2 stream movie, you will use let's say... 1400Mb? like when you encode a 5.1 channel audio?
whell, I added 2 audio streams to a movie that his duration is more than 2 hours. the bitrate of the video is 927kbps, the resolution is 704X288 and the compression ratio is 128:1
and if I convert it to 16:9 (WS) the rsolution is 672X368 and the compression ratio is 156:1.
So I think that the output will be in a great quality,
with 2 audio streams.
Don't you think?

Hello David,
Your English is great (Dare I say fantastic)
at least, it is a great deal better than my Hebrew.
The audio tracks are almost the same; it is a great luxury to have both the stereo track, which contains a matrixed Dolby ProLogic surround, and the 5.1 AC3 audio as well.
Most people would create a stereo track for a 700MB AVI.
If you want the 5.1 AC3, then go for it, but you wouldn't really need the stereo track anymore then, would you? :-)
I extract the 5.1 audio by DeMuxing it to a separate AC3 file with SmartRipper v2.41, then running BeSweet (Azid) to decompress it into a fullsize WAV.
BeSweet gives great control over the downmix, including the ability to add the LFE (subwoofer) channel into the stereo L&R. I add it @ -3dB.
From the WAV I then create an MP3 that is 120-130MB for a 2hour film. The quality is excellent but Dolby ProLogic is the best the sound can be (whadda ya want, in only 700MB!)
I have considered combining the 5.1 AC3 + DivX video into a 1400MB AVI, but forget that, compromises have to be made.
The point is, you don't need two audio streams unless they are different languages or whatever.

I will think about it.
Hmm and one more question.
You recommend me to encode the AC3 to Stereo with besweet and then added it to the converted video and not do the encoding of the video and the audio with the same program? (For now I use FairUse Wizard)

Wow!
I tried the program Gordian Knot
I love it!
And I converted the AC3 to WAV with BeSweet and added the LFE to the 2 channels.
The I tried to convert it to MP3 with BeSweet and the output was corrupted, and it wasn't VBR.
So I used HeadAC3He to convert Wav to MP3 and the output was perfect!
And the Gordian Knot is great and very easy to use!
And the guide in this site helped me alot!

Well I finished encoding The Matrix Reloaded (Legal) and the output is wonderful!
Because the duration is 2:02:07 (I had cut the credits at the end) I spilted the movie into 2 parts that each one of them is about 700MB.
The resolution is 704X384, and the overall bitrate is 1811kbps!
The quality is so beautiful!
I split it to 2 parts because the duration is more then 2 hours, and if I fix it into 1 700mb disc, the bitrate of the video is about 600-700kbps, and that low.
Anyway, my time now is 01:30am, so I can't here the sound, so tommorow morning I will check how the sound went out.
Again, thank you very much for introducing me to this program, I learned alot of new things and I love it.
And I thought I were a pro... ;)

Interesting,
I too backed-up my disk. I chose to do it at 640x272 in 700MB. I wanted to see what it looked like, with a triple-pass rip and single-quant credits.
It looks very nice, but actually the audio is 128kbs MP3 (joint stereo) and I like 160-192kbs so, it's almost more of a reason to go to 2 discs (1400MB) than the video quality.
Normally I would size this film to 704x304 (NTSC) which is 2.35:1, if the film was not so long.
Is your version PAL, or is it panned/scanned or ?

It's PAL
And I stretched it a little so the view will be anamorphic so it will be shown as 16:9 in a 4:3 TV :)
