First attempt to burn. Won't work. Have saved video from my camcorder onto hard drive. The file was saved as .wmv (there doesn't seem to be any choice but to save it that way using windows xp) When I try to use Nero6 to burn a dvd-, it won't recognize the file type. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

dude, u cant burn windows media video file, not onto that disc

lol, you need to convert the file to a different type, mpeg 2 would be the best selection

mainconcept mpeg encoder - will do that job

http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/showsoftware_tmpgenc_412.html

tmpgenc Xpress v3.0

its one of the best encoders of this format i know (its a little time consuming, and its not the easiest thing to work with, but - it produces superior results

yes this one of the best ways to go from a DV cam to DVD.

happy converting - post back if you have any more input

please let me know how this is going as I was just handed an assignment (by my husband) to download some files and burn a DVD - I discovered the files were .wmv and couldn't find anyway to burn them except by burning them as data files which didn't work on our DVD player - i researched and found that you need to have .VOB and .ifo and .bup files - will the encoder you mentioned create those from the .wmv files?
thanks - we just got the DVD burner and i am a neophyte at this stuff
