Showtime offering new episodes of Dexter, Homeland for free on YouTube

article published on 1 October, 2012

Showtime has put the season 7 premiere of Dexter and the second season premiere of Homeland on YouTube, in their entirety. The premium cable channel is looking to entice new users, by offering a glimpse into the top-rated shows they offer weekly. Showtime's move is not the first in the industry. Fox aired the pilot for "New Girl" online weeks before its launch on TV. The airing was ... [ read the full article ]

I'm in Canada. Episodes of Dexter are available at the same time in Canada as they are in the U.S. Once again anything outside of the U.S. doesn't seem to matter. Thanks for sharing Showtime.

Showtime sucks...their programming is great, but getting it anywhere but home (where I am about 1 day out of 90) is a huge pain. After demonoid got shut down I turned it off...I'm not going to pay for a station that I can't watch shows from. These networks need to get with the times...not everyone goes home every night, and even if you do, why shouldn't you be able to watch the shows you are paying for on your tablet/phone/laptop? Even the old episodes of Dexter are not on Netflix, one episode on youtube, and the only other online access it thru piracy...AND THEY WONDER WHY PEOPLE PIRATE THESE SHOWS!!!

Use a proxy. It's slower to load, but it should work.

I realize that there are other options - proxies, file sharing and sites that let you view online. My point was that Showtime put an episode on YouTube to generate interest in the show. Why not allow people in a country where your show is available legally to watch it? I would love to tell my friends to check out the episode on YouTube and then subscribe if you like the show. I can't do that because Canadians aren't authorized to view the show on YouTube.

Interesting, because I recall Dexter being on Netflix before...

All of the legal red tape and ways to bleed a penny for the same content makes me ill.

I wish DirecTV's nomad device worked as advertised. The ultimate solution would be a DVR that allows you to stream your recorded content to a device such as a laptop or smartphone. I'm sure this will happen when said red tape is cut.

Yeah...that's where I found dexter originally...that's why I signed up for showtime to begin with. Their plan worked...and then they went back on it to keep it from working on anyone else! Honestly, if you haven't seen the first seasons you would be lost in the new seasons...and without netflix, the only way to see the first seasons is to buy them (and the chances of someone who never saw the show buying them is very slim).

I wish I was the drug dealer for the Showtime executives...he must be a billionaire.
