You'll find many comments about Memorex DVD-Rs in this forum. The problem is that some are good and some are bad - even though they look identical. The first ones I bought were great - no coasters. I was so pleased that I ordered more. The second batch were total crap. My opinion - leave them alone, it's just not worth the risk.

going on 300 discs (buying it in packs of fifty), not one coaster. Record Now Max, DVD Shrink, Pioneer 105.

I think people have bad burns with these discs because of their burning set up.

Tosca - I don't think so. At one point I had a stack of good blanks and a stack of bad ones (from different suppliers). They looked (and id'd) identical. I took one from the good stack and it worked. I took one from the bad stack and it failed. Every one from the good stack worked (and still works). Every one from the bad stack failed...until the point when I returned them for refund. It was this side-by-side comparison that made me suspicious. Of course if I'd always managed to get the good ones then I'd be really happy and may even still be using them.

I found these on sale at a local office store and thought that I was getting a good deal so I bought two 25 packs. I had the same results as the others on here, some worked some did not,(most didn't work). In my opinion I would stay away from them. They are too unpredictable.

ricster. Ya better believe it baby. 300 discs and not one bad burn yet. Check your setup if you have probs. Blame the media after you've ruled everything out.

dvd shrink 2.3 (the newer versions didn't work for me), record now max and a trusty but aging pioneer 105 + memorex dvd-r = 300 plus perfect burns (no pixelation at the edges, etc etc, no nothin) and no coasters.

Stop blaming the media already. IF it didn't work for you then your burner or burning program is the most likely culprit. Stop the hate!

Been through 3 50 packs and only had 2 go bad. Had 5 or 6
go bad out of a TDK 25 pack. Using a Pioneer 104. Maybe the older Pioneer burners work better with Memorex. Then
again, I'm only burning at 2x max. Using DVD Shrink 2.15
+ Nero 6.0.

Tosca. I don't doubt that you have 300 good discs but you're missing the point. Picture the scene - I'm sat at my desk with a stack of Memorex blanks to the left of me. These are the good ones that I've been happily burning for weeks. I love them, just like you do. I then open up my brand new set of identical Memorex blanks to the right and try to burn. It fails. Strange - I've never had a failure before. So, I turn to my left, take one from the good stack and it works. After that, I take one from the right and it fails. There was no difference in the burning setup other than the direction I had to turn to select a disc. What other conclusion could I draw ?

Well you good have just got a batch of defective discs which could happen using any media manufacturer. Im sure if none of them are working you can return them for a refund. I have burned 100 memorex 4x dvd-rs without any coasters using various setups with my lg 4040B

Memorex buys its media from different manufacturers. If you are unlucky and get the ones manufactured by CMC you are f***ed. CMC is the worst.

Memorex overall has served me well in the DVD / CDR realm. I've purchase most of mine from Best Buy and about 97% turn out great. I have purchased some batches from Walmart and the percentage has dropped a bit to 90%. Make sure you use smartburn in Nero (or what ever you might use to insure a good burn)

Without a doubt Memorex is the worst media. I have a total of 5 DVD players in my house, and the Memorex discs will never play on more than one of them. The only thing those garbage discs are good for is shooting with my shotgun!

jim_dandy, I thought this was supposed to be a positive message board? Most people know that the supposed best media is Ritek. Over the years, I've had great luck with them, Memorex, Sony, Ricoh, along with Maxell and some others I can't remember.
Laser rot does happen, but how many hours would you have to play them before it happens? 10 hours, 100, 1000 hours? Most of us back up movies, music, etc to play ocassionally, not every minute of everyday.

Don't take my word for it... I know nothing.
