article published on 9 October, 2012

Last month, Valve said it would allow 1000 Linux users to test out the popular Steam platform as a private beta starting this month. Naturally, the games that were already available in Linux wouldn't be that hard to add. I know that some of the games in the Humble Bundles were available for Linux.

savage 2, warzone, eternal lands and 0 ad have gotten me by pretty well. There are plenty of games on linux without steam. Plenty that are completely free!

There are plenty of free games, but I'd like to buy Steam games for Linux to show my support for commercial Linux gaming. I'm tired of having to run Windows to play the games I want to play. I tried giving up Windows a couple of years ago and trying to use WINE to play games was a headache. I really want companies to break their dependence on DirectX so that games are more cross platform friendly.
