Earlier this week, following an investigation, Foxconn admitted to hiring underage interns, in breach of child labor laws.
In China, the legal working age is 16 but some of the interns were found to be as young as 14. While Foxconn did not admit it, some reports claimed the interns were working many hours including overtime.

This is Nintendo's way of saying, we have found the cheapest way to manufacture our line, and although we may or may not have known they were not adhering to the law, we will of course allow them the chance to get away with it before we as a last measure pull out.
To this I say I hope everyone enjoys their slave laboring devices they enjoy for so cheap.
Nintendo are trying to put on a good front for the media.Nintendo probably dont care what happes at foxconn as long as they get the consoles made at the cheapest possible price.

As long as it is legal for a 16-year-old kid to work 20 hours a day for peanuts, that's fine...but 14 is not acceptable because it is not legal. Seems the logical thing to do would be to lower the working age to 10...no, make that 8...no...5...
I dunno. Obviously Foxxcon is is in the wrong, but I feel like Nintendo is a respectable company, or at least their CEO is. I had no idea they still employed Foxxcon to produce their systems...wow.
I understand that they might feel like they need it, since they will need to be ridiculously competitive in their pricing of the Wii U...but still. Child labor.

Nintendo is also on the lower end of environmental responsibility ratings for electronics manufacturers.
