No Service Pack 2 coming for Windows 7?

article published on 24 October, 2012

According to a new report, Microsoft will not release a second service pack for Windows 7. Instead of packaging everything into a service pack, Microsoft will just continue to patch every month until support for the OS comes to an end. The software giant has not confirmed nor denied the report, so it is unclear whether the new move will be a standard moving forward with Windows 7 and ... [ read the full article ]

Doubtful, any more than Vista "was their undoing". It may hinder them, but they're still a gawdawful-huge company...

your right about that.what we see as an uproar of disapproval for win 8 is just a ripple in the pond.although, like vista its nice to think that that ripple rocked their boat a little.

It will be worse than Vista because they are trying to
go in whole new direction. If this fails then their fight
to get a place in the tablet and smart phone market
is gone.
MS don't know what they are or who they are, they
just want to be like Apple.
As history has taught us, all great empires fade and
fail. Look at how they ruined and killed their world
leading Flight Sim software. Windows 8 is just another
nail in the coffin.

Where M$S seem to have lost it is that they are attempting a "one size fits all" approach to their OS.

Win 8 "may" suit the mobile market but not the desktop/laptop one.

Win7 has only just overtaken use in Industry over XP and only by a small percentage, hence the continued support for XP until 2014 "at least" - the longest support to any OS ever given by M$S. (IIRC)

The home user market may be the most lucrative but industry (gov depts etc) are the bread and butter. Alienate them to another OS (Linux perhaps) and you've lost a big chunk of guaranteed revenue.

I await a comment from M$S

Microsoft has already lost i am sorry to say because there product activation system now having the cd key built into the windows 8 disk will crush them because without being able to purchase a new key if something goes wrong you have to purchase a new win 8 at 200.00 and worse no media center unless you purchase professional

Windows 8 would be great if the "Metro" interface could be turned-off for desktop use.

It looks good and is useful on a tablet, it is HORRIBLE on a desktop. I absolutely can't stand looking at it on my 22" monitor. I've tried to get used to it and I just can't. It's such a relief to go back to Win 7 after playing with Win 8.

MS FORCING desktop users to use a tablet interface is a huge mistake, IMO.

I'm hoping that a future Win 8 update or Service Pack will allow Metro to be turned-off.

Yeah I know, but I meant MS should build that capability into the OS.

With windose 8 your going to need an explorer app, taskbar app and desktop app. Tho the upside it can't crash as much as explorer dose on win7...heheheheehe

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

Can't believe the negative response to Win8 here ...

I really hope the launch goes really well and is adopted by the majority of people because this is definitely a huge leap forward for the entire IT industry and will branch into bigger and better things in the future!

I don't like Win 8 GUI. Maybe if they change that in the future i would upgrade. Anyway i think is too son to Microsoft release a new OS when 7 is doing good.

Right, but the users shouldn't have to do this - Microsoft should have an option built-in for this for desktop computers.

Forcing desktop users to use a tablet interface is just wrong, IMO.

I have windows 7 and i'm happy with it.
As for windows 8 I will not buy it or a windows 8 phone as I don't like the look of it,(Yes I know never judge a book by it's cover)but the whole layout just looks cheap and low tech and puts me off.

I really see no reason to upgrade - or to ever use it on a desktop PC.
