Amazon has updated their homepage to show off how the Kindle Fire HD compares to the new iPad Mini. While the "attack" is tame compared to Samsung's recent ad campaigns, it does take a shot at how little Apple is really offering with its new tablet. since neither kindle fire HD nor ipad mini would offer productivity, paying $329 for a recreational tab is nonsense.

I imagine Apple can't wait for an opportunity where they can run an ad like this - shame it isn't ever going to happen!

It isn't necessarily nonsense...M$ might call them recreational, but they can actually be rather useful for some people...at least as useful as a regular tablet.

Maybe useful to some degree, but for $329, still nonsense, when the same degree of usefulness or even more can be had for almost half the price...

However, if that usefulness is tied to the App Store and said App isn't available for a competing platform such as Android, then the cost savings is nil - you're tied to Apple/Android/MS.

MS is absolutely correct about it, IMO. yes, ipad or the like is useful for some people...
browse - if you have nothing else to do
mail - keep checking, good timepass
watch video - youtube junkies
listen to music - could't find another device
read something - newspapers and gossips
video chat - girlfriend thingy
take photo (i have seen people showing off their ipads by taking photos using them)

ain't we talking about couch potatoes? where is the productivity?
