I have a U.S. v9 PS2, and I started installing the Matrix Infinity yesterday.

I think I've managed to secure all of the connections except for B, G, H, I. The only installation information I've been able to find for this chip is the picture available from infinitymod.com. In the picture, they list alternate solder points for B, G, H, and I, but I can't find that location anywhere. Is it on the other side of the board, the one covered by a metal jacket? If so, how do I get to those points?

I tried to solder these wires to the pins of the IC, but I just can't get them to stick, and I'm pretty sure I am going to bridge pins regardless of how careful I am. Any tips? Despite all the advertisements touting an easier install due to 20 wires or less, this seems pretty tough.

One last thing: what is the best location to mount the Infinity on the motherboard?

Thanks for any help.

yeah, the alternate points are on the bottom side, youll have to disconnect the cd lense flat cable to be able to access that side. i put my chip where the serial number was (a little white sticker) between the usb and the a/v inputs are. i still cant get my chip to work. i get a black screen with no sound.

as for not bridging two legs together here what i do.
i cut small pieces of heavyweight paper and put them between each leg. then solder the wires on

if you can, get a board that has small pins and practice on it before soldering your ps2

hope this helps

Sorry for the delay...I finished the soldering job last Friday; I thought that the metal shield/heat sink assembly was bonded to the chips, but it turns out that with a bit of wiggling, the thermal transfer material comes off easily and cleanly. After I got it off, it became obvious where the alternate mount points were.

After I finished, I routed all the wires and stuck them to the board with small pieces of electrical tape. I actually emailed the infinitymod.com guys (info@infinitymod.com) and they responded in a few days! According to the person who replied to my email, "A good position for the Infinity on the V9 can be found here: http://www.consolenet.com/claudio/foto/infinity-v9-forty.jpg".

The bad news: I can't get the PS2 to boot either. When I start it up the screen flashes slightly, indicating that the display is resetting. When I try to load any discs (purchased PS2 game, CDR, DVD-R), the disc spins up properly but the screen remains black, with no sound. The power led turns green, and the fan spins properly.

I went back and checked all the connections as well as possible using a multimeter. I can't find anything wrong, and there is no evidence of damage or burns on the board. Does anyone have any ideas? Can anyone point me to a mod chip installer local to Los Angeles, CA. At this point, I am willing to pay someone to make this work, assuming I haven't wrecked some vital PS2 component.

i was getting the black screen but then i found out it had to do with my ground or 3v3 i dont remember which. after that it would boot up and it would say "unable to read disc" with any game i put in. when i take off the chip it reads my originals thought, so i dont know what is up. it can also be your bios. i decided to send my chip back to get it tested and see if the chip is faulty. i found someone who does professional installs in canoga park, i'm in the san fernando valley so i did some research.

well i never got my "replacement chip" from impactmods.com . They made me wait 2 weeks thinking i was going to get a replacement. They have some horrible customer service. I just ended up filing a complaint with paypal and got my money back. I think i'm just going to go with the duo 2 se.
