HP dvd 200i - please help

Hello,

I searched the forums but I was unable to find an answer to my problem.

I just bought an HP dvd writer 200i and I am having huge amounts of trouble with it. Ok, here's my situation.

-When installing the software that came with it, it keeps telling me no HP dvd drive detected
-Works fine as a CD-r/rw drive
-burned fine with the first dvd-r's I purchased (Imation dvd-r)But I purchased the newer Imation dvd-r's and it won't read those
-Will not read any other blank dvds (TDK, Memorex, Khypermedia)
-Disappears from "my computer" after putting in a blank dvd-r (I read something about windows xp turning off dma mode and removing a drive if it encounters continuous errors.. could this be the case here?)
-But no matter what I do I can't get the software to detect the drive

I have tried Nero, Alchohol 120, DVD Decrypter for burning

PLEASE HELP!!! :)

my system is:
------------
-AMD 2200+
-Biostar Mainboard w/ NVida NForce Chipset
-Nvidia GForce 64MB video card
-DVD writer is the only drive connected to secondary
-floppy & ethernet adapter
-Windows XP
