Please could you help answer some of these questions for me:
What is the difference between AC3 5.1 sound and DTS 5.1 surround sound...?

When will the next version of DVDshrink come out (?) Will you be able to remove scenes (and adverts to cut down space) - and also what does deep analysis do (does it make a difference)?

When do you think I should buy a dual layer DVD-writer and is there any ritek-G04 media for it yet?

Thanks!

Hi,

1) DTS is a much better sounding format and consequently takes up much more space on the disc. Unless your home system supports DTS it's a waste to use it.

2) Soon. The reauthor feature should still be there. Deep analysis helps improve the final picture quality when there is a significant amount of compression to be done. Whether to use it or not is dependant on individual tastes as far as what looks good to you. It may be worth your while to use some rewritable discs and experiment with and without Deep Analysis to find out what works for you.

3) DL media is still very scarce and frighteningly expensive at the moment so whether it's worth it to get a DL burner now is up to you. Personally, I'm waiting until the media is cheaper and the burn speeds get upped to 4X. Ritek DL media should be showing up in a while.

The difference is that factory DVDs are pressed from a master and not burned.

Here's a very informative link that may be of interest to you:

Black1ce, the new shrink's quality settings are well worth using if over 15%-20% compression. 10% or less doesn't seem to make a difference.

You will be surprised at the improvement of pic quality between 20% -40%. It is VERY good. Much better than the old.

Also the latest version has incorporated burning dual layer discs with no compression using Nero to burn.

Ritek doesn't have 'em yet, but verbatim does-at 15.00 each!
