frist off thank you dRD with the help so far. this site rocks. i still need some help though. im trying to burn anime episodes to media discs to be able to play in my dvd player. you told me to convert divx files to mpeg1 files with aheads nero. the file i am trying to do this with list the following properties. it's audio is mpeg layer 3 and it's video is divxmpeg4 v3. now do i just run the nero software and convert both of these to mpeg1? and also one more question. you told me to burn this to a video cd. what is that? is it a cdr disk or something totally different i can buy? thanks a lot for the help!

Ah, no. Don't use Nero's converting option, it produces horrible quality. Use TMPGEnc to encode your DivX to VCD.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">VideoCD compatible MPEG-1 (bunch of VCD guides are available at our articles section). After you've done this, you just use Nero to burn the VCD.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">VideoCD.

VideoCD is just regular CD-R burned in very specific way so it works with virtually all stand-alone DVD players -- more about this and other terms from :

http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/

From Nero you just simply choose VCD.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">VideoCD as your disc type and drop the MPEG-1 file to it and burn the CD (remember to finalize the disc and burn it with 4x or slower, otherwise it wont work with DVD player).

Also remember that quality drops whenever you convert from a format to another -- whatever the conversion is (divx->VCD, vcd->divx, divx->SVCD, svcd->VCD, etc..).

oldE91: You need to use TMPGEnc to convert your videos to MPEG-1 and then you need to use CD writer software like Ahead's Nero to burn the MPEG-1 to VCD.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">VideoCD format. Look at our articles section for guides and more info.

No, you don't need to extract DivX files. Only additional step you might need to do is to extract the audio from DivX file to separate file if it is bundled as MP3 track with DivX (TMPGEnc whines about the file when you try to open it and that most likely means that you need to do this).

nightmare: You need to convert the DVD into some other format, like VCD.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">VideoCD or DivX. Ripping process requires 5-15GB of free space, but that's only temporarily, the resulting files range from 700 to 2GB.

Read guides from our article section.

Hi,
I have used tmpenc for a while now and think it is great, I have a few DIVX movies which I want to record to video.

I have a Reel Magic Hollywood Mpeg decoder card which works great for playing DVD's and mpegs (which I can record). I need to convert the DivX to either mpeg1 or mpeg2 to play on this card. The divx movies play fine in media player tmpenc throughs up an error "cannot open or unsupported".

Any ideas ?

Cheers

im just curious about tmpgencoder, why does it take so long to encode it to mpeg, and are there any slight possible ways to speed it up? Also what about minor glitches on them. Like when i play a certain movie it freezes at a certain part, will this be fixed in the conversion or what? when the dvd is played is it formatted to the tv size? how will it look with its resolution compared to the screen? 1 more question: converting the divx to mpeg reduces the quality, right? well, how much? is it a noticable difference? Is it bad? any advice?

I burned a vcd with Nero at 8 speed and no errors came when i was burning it. Will it play on a stand-alone DVD player which supports VCDs? TMPGEnc usually lets me have the audio source the same as the video source. But when I tried to encode an episode of the simpsons I downloaded from two different sources it says "File....cannot open, or unsupported". Why is that?

TMPGEnc can't handle certain type of audio tracks, like AC3. In those cases, the audio has to be separated from the AVI and saved in some other format (like WAV) that TMPGEnc can use as an input format.

And 8x normally works, but every now and then you encounter issues with fast burning and that's why we recommend -- and use by ourselves -- max 4x speed. For important stuff, I normally shop "good brand" CDRs and burn them at 2x.

When I pick the audio source I have no trouble opening it but when opening the video source I got the above error. What program could I use to split video from audio.
