I have an old V4 PS2 with a Neo 4 modchip. I have never tried a DVD backup but just bought a NEC ND-2510A Dual Layer DVD burner. Is the old PS2 worth a try> If so what media works best with these V4's? Is there a good first game to try and backup?
1. make sure you use -R media
2. make sure it is a good brand media and not generic crap
3. try a game that is NOT listed here first: http://www.swapmagicfix.com
Do you need to use a boot disc (ie. gameshark) with the chip, or is it able to load backups right away?
What is the difference between these 2 methods? Should i invest in a fliptop or is this sufficent? These are the instructions that came with the PS2.
"< How to do the DVDR swap
* Turn on the PS2 with no disc
* Press X to go into the browser screen
* Press eject and put in your original DVD game (Big TOC)
* Press eject again and hold till gold disc comes on screen
* Let go and tray will eject slowly- swap with your DVDR backup
* Press X and play - its that simple
Note the best boot disc to use at the time of this post is GTA3 4.37GBHow to do the EA Swap
* Turn on the PS2 with no disc
* Press X to go into the browser screen
* Press eject and put in your original PS2 CD based disc
* Press eject again and hold till blue disc comes on screen
* Let go and tray will eject - swap with your EA non patched game
* Press X and play - its that simple
Note the best boot disc can be ANY PS2 CD Based disc - even magazine coverdiscs will work.">
well, then your mod should work. The only thing is that when you want to load a dvd game, the original (big TOC) game must be bigger than the backup you are trying to load.
All right, so here's the thing... I have an older neo key version (and I can't for the life of me remember which model). As I recall, you couldn't play DVD-R backups on the neo-key. Will the advent of the swap magic disc allow me to play DVD-R's with the neo-key or will I have to re-mod the PS2? I was using the Gameshark to swap for the CD-R backups.
Thanks a lot for the help. It's really nice of all of you to take time out to help the more "challenged" of us.
It's one that has a jumper wire soldered inside. The neo key plugs into the USB on the front.
To boot you flip the switch key to the left and boot up the gameshark disc. When the gameshark prompts, you switch to the backup and flip the switch to the right.
It always worked perfectly for CD-Rs but I wasn't sure if it would work on DVD-Rs or not. When I installed it, I don't think there were very many DVD-R games around.
