Hi- im not too experienced with backing up dvds, I tried it a couple years ago with a bit of success.

I recently was trying to make a backup of "The Howling" special edition. The disc contained both widescreen and standard versions of the movie, so it wouldnt fit as it was onto a blank.

I pulled all the files to my hard drive with dvd decrypter. I noticed that the standard screen version of the movie, which I didnt want, was the 9xx title set or whatever you call it. The widescreen version that I wanted to keep was the 10xxx title set.

What I then did was just to delete the 9xx references of the standard screen version that I didnt wanna keep-
9 bup
9 ifo
9_0 ts
the other 9xxs

I left all the other files as they were. And with only the widescreen version it was small enough to fit on a blank with the special features etc.

After I deleted the 9xx stuff I got sectors with ifoedit, burned it with nero, and it works fine In my standalone dvd player. When I click play standard screen version on the dvd menu, it just goes back to the main menu- when I click play widescreen, the movie plays normally. Im wondering if I did it right or if it works only by some quirk- because it seemed a little too easy.

Anyone have any input? Thanks in advance

I also use IFOEdit. If I have a question if the the dvd is setup right I always use the dvd play in IFOEdit. But make sure your original disk is not in the drive or it will be playing that one. Open up the video ifo file and hit dvd play. If it plays fine there it should be ok to burn. It has saved me a couple of times from burning bad dvd's. I am not an expert but it has helped me.
Another thing I found before burning was, if I don't save it after I hit region free my new burned dvd won't play in my PC but will on my dvd player. Main thing is check out your setup before burning.
